Hey WP... thanks for the great overview of the new 1.16.4 update for the DJI Fly app. I have a challenge for you that DJI has not be able to answer... I recently traded in my Air2S for a Mini Pro4. During my last use of the Air2S, my DJI Fly App updated to the latest firmware, 1.16.4. I use an iPad Mini Gen 5 and everything worked fine with the Air2S. But when I went to connect the iPad and RC-N2 with my new Mini 4Pro... it will not connect. I am able to connect my iPhone 16 and RC-N2, but not the iPad. I have confirmed that I have the DJI App V1.16.4 and RC Firmware 01.01.0300. I know the latest RC Firmware is 05.00.0300, but the Firmware within the "About" section of my RC does not ask to check for updates. Any ideas on how I can continue to use my iPad with my RC-N2?
Just a clarification, that video was not mine, i.e., I didn't make it. I was only passing it along, sharing with the Forum.
As for your matter, I have used an iPad mini Gen 6 with current iOS, current Fly App, to fly Flip and Mini 4 Pro... and today ( Mar 20, 2025) a new NEO. However the Mini has never been "bound" to an Air 2S. I "might be" having difficulty resolving connectivity identiy between the two different firmwares.
Expect to do a lot of optional setups... by example. I'd start with deleting Fly App from the Mini, then completely turning off the Mini and re-booting (hard restart). Then reinstall Fly on the Mini. With every piece of hardware, make sure you have a full batteries.
Try this order: Turn on the N2. Open the new Fly App. (don't connect the Mini to the N2 yet). Turn on the Mini 4 Pro. (aka M4P). after the Fly App loads, Tap the "Connection Guide" button, then select the M2P icon and follow the instructions for connecting the remaining hardware. As I recall, there's a step to connect the RC N2 to the Mobile Device. During this step by step you will be prompted to update any firmware, and don't delay doing it. If that occurs, you may have to start the step by step all over again.
For some reason, I recall that the "order" of connection was important, especially when the RC and/or Mobile Device had previously been connected to another aircraft. I draw this conclusion because of my recent experience connecting my iPhone, and then iPOD (final gen) with a refurbished NEO.
At the worst, write down the order of connection/installation with each attempt, keeping track of any changes. It makes it easier to try a different order. FWIW, I can now connect the old iPod to any of the three quads with minimal change (same with using an iPhone 16 and iPad Mini 6).
Of note, there are differences in switching when the NEO is the next or previously connected quad. The App asks which connection is to be used, (no Mobile v. Mobile v. RC). I know you're not asking about that quad, so I'll stop here.
Finally...failing all this (!), on this site, go to the Support link and start a live Chat session. With your notes you should be able to answer any of their quesitons. I have ALWAYS had success ( over the last 9 years and 6 different DJI products) using the Support ( one to one ) assistance.
