Hello,

I have been trying for days now to get DJI Fly to work to activate my Neo.

My phone is a Google Pixel 9 Pro. DJI Fly installs, and runs the first time and lets me login and agree to everything. But then the first time I click on something the screen goes white with a DJI logo and a few seconds later drops me back to the home screen. The app is still running but switching to it just shows that same white screen for a couple seconds and disappears again. I have killed/restarted the app, rebooted the phone, and even uninstalled/reinstalled the app. Same result.

So I pulled out my old Pixel 8 Pro, factory reset it since it's not my active phone anymore, and installed DJI Fly on that. The app works, but it will not activate my drone. It connects to the drone, and then gives me an "agree" button to activate it, but when I tap that it says "Could not activate, check network connection." I expect that's because I have no internet connection because the app takes over my wifi. If I go to my internet settings and reconnect to my home wifi, then go back to DJI Fly and click to activate, it says it activates...and then drops me into the main DJI Fly screen, where the drone is no longer connected because I'm on my home wifi. And if I click to connect to the drone, it connects and says it needs to activate. Which won't work because I'm not connected to the internet. Chicken, meet egg.

To say this is frustrating would be a gross understatement. Is it too much to ask that you produce a working app?

If you have a workaround for me please provide it. Otherwise I am returning the drone.

the Neo is connected to Wi-Fi and you need to enable Cellular Data Network to get internet

Yeah, well that's not really possible. As I said I'm running DJI Fly on my old phone, because it won't run on my new phone. My old phone doesn't have cell service, and I'm not going and buying a new cell phone plan because this app sucks. Any other ideas? In particular, any idea why it doesn't work right on the Pixel 9 Pro? I would much rather have it working on my actual phone. The fact that a company of DJI's size and stature apparently can't produce an android app to a quality level where it works on most popular devices and can be accepted on the Google Play store is frankly mind-blowing.

Hi Mindy,

Yes, that is the APK I have downloaded and installed. As I said, on the Pixel 9 Pro it runs and allows me to login, up to the moment when I allow the application permissions it needs. Once the permissions are allowed (whether on prompting from the app, or after installation but before running the app for the first time) the app ceases to function entirely, only displaying a white background with a DJI logo. If you have any workarounds to try please let me know.

As a more general matter, it seems obvious that quality and compatibility work is needed on the DJI Fly Android app; in particular Google's sideloading policies are becoming more strict, so not having the app in the Play Store is becoming increasingly untenable. I hope your developers are working on that problem, but in any case your help with my specific situation is greatly appreciated.

As you requested, I have created a video of the behavior. It is apparently too large for your forum system, so here is a drive link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JbTdwpf08IIEzqImxNBpKVTKAm2dshp6/view?usp=sharing

Please let me know if that doesn't work for you.

Thanks.

Hello Hunter,

Thank you for sharing the video with us. We're sorry to hear about the crashing issue you're experiencing with the DJI Fly App.

Please try the following steps to troubleshoot the problem:
1. Go to the mobile phone’s “System Settings” and find “Installing an Unknown Application”. Enable the “Allow application installation from this source” switch.

2. Check the mobile phone’s internal storage, and clear its cache. The remaining memory must be greater than 2GB.

3. If there is Google Play installed on this phone, please disable "Google Play Protect"
Please note:  If you have enrolled in the Advanced Protection Plan, please disable the "Advanced Protection" through the link here: https://support.google.com/accou ... 4%E8%AE%A1%E5%88%92

4. If the “Installing an Unknown Application” setting is enabled, please back up your photos and videos. Uninstall the earlier version of the app and then restart your mobile phone. Download and install the app from the DJI official website here: https://www.dji.com/downloads/djiapp/dji-fly?backup_page=index

5. If the app cannot be installed directly from the browser, try finding the APK file in the File Manager for installation. Alternatively, re-download the installation package and move it directly to the device’s internal storage root for installation.

6. If an older version of the app is installed on the phone, uninstall it before clicking on the APK file to install the new version.

7. Make sure that your phone is connected to the network without whitelist limitations, such as company/school WLAN, etc which may disallow DJI App installation.

If you need any further technical support, please feel free to contact us anytime. We're here to help. Thank you.

I have an idea, but I'm not sure if it will work or not
You can enable shared networking via Bluetooth
and the phone you use for dji fly connect and enable internet access, hope it is not confusing, because I did not tell the steps properly (each phone has different settings)
