FPV First time in Manual Mode

Hoping this works as it's the first time I've tried to upload a video (I usually don't even turn on recording!).

My first time flying in Manual Mode with Googles N3 and FPV Remote Controller 3.  The simulator time (for my old thumbs/fingers) was essential and removed almost all the stress / fear (almost, but not all!)...  I left the training wheels on (Attitude limit ON) and will prolly fly a few more times before removing that crutch - more to keep my ego in check (don't want to have to replace another drone!).  Even with the training wheels on, I loved the responsiveness compared to other controllers.  I left the Gain/Expo settings "stock" and will prolly leave them that way.  Seen lots of videos on different settings, but have no clue what they should be.

Good advice DannoCoy. SImulator is the first step to fly in manual mode. About the PIDS, if you feel comfortable with factory configuration you haven't to change them

This guy talks about rates for the Neo.  I changed mine to what he has and man what a difference!
I'm no expert at manual mode, just barley keep it in the air, and (mostly) go where I want to.  Thank goodness for the "panic " button!

Thank you, sir!  I actually watched this video and have a screen shot of his rates sheet!  I will try them out.
Have flown manual 3 times with Atti On and first time today with atti Off.  Most of the time I feel in control, but when ego kicks in ("I can go faster!"), having the Oh Shxt button is awesome!

I found it to be easier to fly with his rates.  I got a lot smoother and better control.  I still have a long way to go, but man, I'm having a ball!

You did very well. I tried it hated it and suspect I will never try it again. Did you change the stick tension on the left throttle stick

Thank you BP!  I did modify the left stick.  Simulator was the key for me to just have confidence that I could have (at least some) control of the drone.

This is a little long of a video, but there is nothing like this to learn rates.  This may take several batteries  This will take many landings and batteries but you will get the drone to fly just with confidence. I would also think when you build up some experience, you probably will increase the rates you have more. Keep in mind, the Neo washes out and it's not the best freestyle. I also keep my yaw minimum because of the washout.

Thanks, Darmie!  I used Bardwell’s vids to learn to fly in simulator, love the guy.  Tried watching this a few months ago, but was way over my head.  Will try again.  When you say low on yaw, what rates are you using?  Default yaw on my drone is center sensitivity: 60,  max rate: 320, expo: .56…

Good first real world flight.  JMHO, flight settings(max rates, expo, stick sensitivity) are an individual choice.  Sort of remember comments in the distant past that "you are not a real FPV flier unless you have x max rates" and other BS like DJI quads are not immersive FPV UASs and blah, blah.... With more or less trial and error you find what works for you.

IMHO, Neo is fine little manual mode FPV flier for us "beginners".  Agile, just enough power to get you into trouble, and most important.  Tolerates crashing.  Not sure what type of plastic DJI uses.  Seems to be relatively strong.  Just the right balance of flex and hardness to so far resist hits that I've trashed other quads.  Multiple manual mode crashes onto basically every type of surface.  Broken props and scuffs have been the damage.

I'll have to check my settings on the Yaw.
His video is somewhat long but in a nut shell;
Center Sensitivity should be as low as you would like it to be to move around comfortably. Max rate is how fast the drone moves near the end points. Think of Max rate how fast you want the drone to flip. Think of Expo being just the dead band around the middle of the stick. Stock setting is fine.  That's really it. So, start with very low Center Sensitivity, Fly and increase as you still feel in control. Increase Max rate so  you are flipping or moving quick enough at the end points. That's it really.

Thank you, sir.   Wouldn’t even consider FPV if I had bought the mini 4 (my initial choice).  The yaw feels way slow to me, so any and all feedback is much appreciated.  Broke first Neo before even trying Manual after numerous crashes.  These things are incredible… check props, wipe off, crash again). , I have 4 batteries in full Manual (atti off) and have yet to crash (the Neo has a way to keep me humble, so this won’t last!).  Your posts related to flight mins/battery are spot on.  I still have upper guards on and getting 8 mins with landing at 30% without doing super hard flying…

Don't leave the Attitude limit ON for too long it can lead to you flying with bad practices and when you turn it off you have to start again learning.

Thanks for feedback, DA!  I have enough bad flying habits, already.  Last 4 flights are with atti limiter off and no crashes, but lots of  “Oh Shxt, pauses” (not doing any acro stuff, yet).  Rain and high winds for next few days, so will take a break.  Am having an absolute blast!

Thats great thing about the DJI FPV solutions.    You can break at any time and it puts itself right,    a great stepping stone to a real FPV quad with an O4 air unit.
