I bought DJI F450 and E310 kit as propulsion for it from a local hobby store. Amazing times with HP 3S 3200ma approx. 10min+ of flight time ~15 of hover.
E310 propelled F450 is very agile and pretty fast. Climb rate is impressive - and all this with 3S battery.

    I run CC3D controller and DX6i kit. I did upgrade latest firmware on CC3D the day I got it but didn't bother to upgrade the 420S ESC's until yesterday.
ESC's firmware upgraded flawlessly on each of 4 units using DJI ESC Assistant from original out of the box version 1.2 to latest version 1.3a. Few minutes later gave it a test flight wanted to see if those updates felt any different. First thing I noticed was pretty spooky: my quad felt like it lost 50% its power. I reset and everything multiple time starting with CC3d to ESC firmware upgrades again but all to the same result - my quad power was cut in half by this ESC 420S firmware 1.3a update. And yes I double and triple checked everything possible and tested motor individually and etc and etc. Proper motors were selected in firmware update as well.

What in the world happened with 1.3a firmware update? Am I alone at this?

I did go back to the store today and bought additional 4 DJI 420S esc's with original 1.2 firmware version and replaced them as soon as I got home. My 100% quad power was back!!

Now I ended up with 4 ESCs laying on my table with firmware that derated them appearently to 50% output and out of $100 cash for replacement ones with version 1.2.

420s with older 1.2 firmware controlled by cc3d works like a charm. Once you upgrade firmware to 1.3a you loose 50% of power output with same cc3d. I tried to recalibrate it reset it to no changes. I wish I could reflash those 1.3a bricked ones back to 1.2 so I could use them again. I think its doable with some third party software by accesing the chip directly but that's a bit beyond me.

You may go back down to the ESC 420 1.2 after upgrading to 1.3 ??

Could you please tell my how to do that alroman25?
I really need to revert them to 1.2

I have the same problem with my F550 with the NAZA-M V2. After the ESC update to 1.3a the aircraft will barely  hover at full throttle. The LEDs turn yellow meaning the motors are at full throttle. They never turned yellow with the 1.2 firmware. The aircraft is very unstable now. I have tried to work with the gain setting with no luck. I wish there was a way to go back to 1.2.

I'm from Germany and I have the same problem.
Since the update to 1.3 the F550 have no more power. The aircraft can just hover and is very unstable.
After ~2 minutes of flight, the F550 goes down fast even at full throttle (Yellow LED) . Normally I have a flight time of 18 minutes.
The voltage settings of the Naza are also correct.

My setup:
Dji F550 Frame
Naza m v2
420S ESC FW 1.3
2212/920kv motor

Did anyone get to the bottom of this? Im very surprised not to see more threads about this. I upgraded and my system is knackered now!

I recently purchased the 4 motor E-310 kit for my F450 with H3-2D GoPro gimbal.

I updated the 1.2 firmware to the 1.3a firmware prior to my first flight, and now at any throttle setting below 50% all motors only turn at idle speed.
This makes the controls extremely erratic at the transition point of 50%, and makes descending and landing extremely dangerous.

On my one and only flight with the 1.3a firmware, the landing was so hard due to this that my camera and gimbal came separated from the f-450 due to the extremely harsh landing.




It is now junk unless I revert back to the original motors and ESCs.
$160 wasted.

Been having same issues after 1 week got this back

We have report this issue to our R&D department and they are working on it.
It seems that the new firmware decreases the KV value
Please decrease the take-off weight currently


Only think I can take off to make less weight is the gimbal... all the rest is standard DJI needed things to fly

Only good option for now is not fly.... but going to downgrade to E300 get better flight times.

Can we roll the firmware back to 1.2 ?

This is ridiculous suggesting that we reduce weight.

Hi, we've changed the propulsion system in the firmware, please use 4S battery. Also, please do not make the aircraft overweight.

Seems now we can onlyuse 4s on the E310 to get any flying which does not make sence.... 4s weigh More.... so where is the trade off... gain the thrust per motor but add more weight does one not cancel out the other

Giving me a solution update my ESC wing 420S ,i have updated and now the engines do not spend 50 % of its power ,
in the forum is said to switch to 4S ,i only work with 3S , what do I do with my 6 batteries 3S bought recently? I would like to replace my ESC by the version 1.2
in the forum there are several people with this problem also
I am going to publish videos on youtobe and comments in facebbok to see that the updated worsens the work of the engines
we want a solution now

Have you tried to connect to the assistant software and update?
The new firmware fixed it and you will get the power back on 3s.
The firmware version is the same but just connect click upgrade and it will be updated.

I update 3 months ago and I have the 1.4 assistant  I do not think that the solution  I have updated  to 1.3a four months

The problem was not fixed in FW 1.3.d.  That's very bad:@.
Can you fix that in the next few days? It should be easy after you did it with FW 1.3.a.

The battery problem have been solved in the last firmware, please connect the assistant software and upgrade again, the version number is still v1.3a. (The R&D have replaced the old one on the server already)Please try again, it should work with 3S battery, we 've confirmed that.

I'm using the 2212 Motors in combination with the E310 ESC's.
If I select the 2212 Motor in the Dji Esc Assistant, then it doesn't work. The Motors still have no power (I think 800KV?).
But if I use the FW v1.3a (which is for the 2312 Motors), it will work. That was a little bit confusing.

So just to comfirm is it safe for me to update from 1.2 version to the latest one

I already regret buying stuff from DJI. I must say that they look’s good but if it doesn’t fly properly it is still worthless.

Can you tell us on what actually happens when i updated the ESC. Causes with the recommended 3S it fly crap. Did you downgrade the Motors to 800KV? If so, Why was that necessary? Overheating?
