Hi all,

I thought I'd share this info as I had a mini heart attack when my firmware update failed and was left unable to use the Go App to update the firmware.

When updating the firmware of my P3S, I lost Wi-Fi due to my phone deciding to switch connections part way through. It left me with multiple beeps from the drone and gimbal, really loud and constant. After reading through forums trying to rectify the problem I could see that I needed to try and update the firmware again.

Problem being the Go App kept saying my battery was below 50% and could not update. In fact the battery was fully charged, but the battery reading was showing 0% through the App.

Now you can't just download the firmware from DJI like you can with the Advanced or Pro, as apparently doing it through the App is easier and less hassle...unless something goes wrong!

Here's the solution to manually update the firmware on the Standard:

The Go App downloads the firmware to your phone ready to transfer to drone.
I'm using a Galaxy S5, so I connected my phone to my PC and navigated to  \Phone\DJI\dji.pilot\Upgrade\DLPackage
In that folder you should see the latest firmware (if you did the first part of trying to update via the app): P3C_FW_V01.01.0030

Now remove your SD card and format FAT32 via your PC (or maybe via the App if you are able).
Then copy P3C_FW_V01.01.0030 to the root of your SD card.
Place the SD card back in your P3S and turn on. The beeps will return, but just let it be for around an hour.
Hopefully the beeps will then change to D-DD, meaning firmware updated!
Restart the drone and fingers crossed it now works!

After doing this I found that I had "no signal".  Just needed to pair the controller to the drone using the option in the Go App, and then pressing the red led/button under the P3S.

All worked and took my first flight!

Hope this helps others who also have this problem.

D.

Aloha Darrell,

I like it!  Found it on my phone but for the P3P.  It had the DJI Go 2.3.0 version on it.  Now I have to look to see if it is also on my Android tablet where the DJI Go 2.4.0 version is.  The tablet takes a chip directly.  Could come in handy some day.

Aloha and Drone On!

Dear Friends, If you have problems with your firmware upload on the P3S you can actually update of refresh your firmware the same way you do on an advanced model or pro through the SD card, The firmware file has been pulled out from the DJI website but I found it here ...

Probably better off getting the version downloaded to your phone than download from a non dji source.

Hello Brother and Sister,

I would like to ask for help.
I just bought a phantom 3 standard, and last night I do a latest firmware update, here strangeness began to occur. because this morning when I tried to fly. all is fine I can do photos. but when I switch to record video, suddenly written "lost signal" and I can not record video. do you know why is that? and please help me to solve this problem. Thank you for your attention and help.

FYI, I use LG G Pro Lite Dual (LG-D686). I do not know if my mobile phone does not support or because there was a mistake that I made.

Hi. Would you be willing to help with a copy of the firmware? Maybe save on Dropbox and share with me? The files are unfortunately no longer on my phone so I don't have any option to get a copy of the firmware. Would really appreciate your help. Thanks.

I had the same problem, and believe you-me I was frustrated.  Before the update the connection from the rc to the drone was good.
When I attempted the update it seemed like it was stuck at 10% but it was working.  So my advice is keep trying...after the 3rd attempt it worked.

Hi Darrell

Greetings all the way from Sri Lanka!

You saved me heaps of grief with your post!

Just the way many people have commented here, my firmware update got stuck, and I was desperately in need of help to get my Phantom S 3 off ground. Followed your suggestion on copying the update through the SD card - and - guess what... My bird is back in the skies!

I cannot thank you enough!

Is there really a more reliable way to update the firmware? For some reason, the WiFi connection fails regularly at home, and I am scared half to death to try to update the firmware (which the DJI Go app keeps prompting me to do), either at home or elsewhere.

Any reliable place where I can get the upto date firmware from? The DJI website does not seem to have it (since probably the only way they sugges we update the firmware is through this (scary) method.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Looks like you standard users need to push DJI to add the firmware update for the standard back onto the website for just this reason.

I'd like to share my experience here in hopes it might help someone finding this thread.  I had the same problem as the OP but figured out it was being caused by my phone, not the Phantom.  During the firmware update, my phone was disconnecting from the Phantom WiFi and connecting to my home WiFi instead.  You see, my phone wanted internet, and it's of course smart, whereas I am not.  After a brief discussion with my phone, which involved turning on airplane mode, then removing ALL saved WiFi networks, I retried the firmware update, and it worked perfectly.  It took around 30 minutes.
