but if use an wi-fi model and I connect the ipad on internet with router tethering of my smartphone, i tink work same of the 3G model, is correct ??

Vince I think the only reason that cellular was thought to be required is the early wi-fi  only versions of the Ipads... or at least the mini's did not have GPS . Without GPS you cannot use follow me or stream to YouTube. Also when flying in a new area without wi-fi unless you pre-loaded a map it will not be available. The Ipad mini 4's wi-fi do have gps so follow me will work and if you have a phone with a personal hotspot you can download maps anyplace you can get a cellular signal.

I think the above is true...but I could be wrong...lol

Actually there is no GPS in an iPad or Phone for that matter. The devices grab the cordinates by Triangulation of Cell Sites.

rodger not that it is worth arguing over but the Ipad mini 4 does have a real GPS... Yes it will first use  towers to fix location because it is faster... but without any cellular reception it can still locate its position using satellites... but it is much slower.... I think... or at least my mini will...lol

Cellular models have Gps module.
You Can use cached maps to find your points (rc and ac)
You can use Dynamic Home Point
You can fly in airplane mode without wifi "on" (better Performance)
You can stream video via your cellular provider
Finally more easy to sell a cellular model.
