I recently tried the 4k video on my P3P.  On replay the screen goes black even though the time indicator is still moving.  When I looked at the file I noticed NOTHING larger the 3.1gb.  This seems to a function of the file structure.  Is it my bird or is anyone else seeing this?

Saw a comment by user "jag01" in a thread last month:

"If your micro sd card is formatted in Fat32 you will be limited to the 4gb files size. To get around that your micro sd card needs to be formatted in exfat file system. This gets you above the 4gb file limit. There are many micro sd cards to choose from. Mine is a SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-1 class 10 64gb formatted in exfat file system. The Phantom 3 supports this file system. Hope this helps."

I have no personal experience with trying this so... your mileage may vary, objects in mirror may appear smarter, yada, yada

Format the card in the camera, using the app.
It will break the video into separate files,  but you shouldn't lose even a second when they are recombined in editing.

it is the file structure nothing you can do to get around it. Not a big deal.

Yes, this is the limit for one file size on your aircraft's SD
