Anyone tried? Tips? The obvious is to stay well above the mist. But I'm concerned about this being the border.
I'm hoping to catch the annnual light show this winter...
The US side is a State park, but I do not believe the Canadian side is. In any case, if I recall correctly, national park restrictions forbid taking off / landing on park grounds. I'd take off from the nearby parking lot. My biggest concern is the border, which kinda cuts through the middle of the falls, and I would not want to set off alarms. I guess I'll just have to see what happens...
Well, if you cross the middle of the river, you are in the USA technically so... make sure your Phantom has a valid passport. ;)
Unfortunately I forgot my ND filters that day, I could only use limited shots but, I'm happy with the results.
Tips:
- The platform beside the boat entrance is impossible to take off safely... something with the ground structure.
- It is going to be a wet ride, hope you can keep it calm. I brought some diapers.
- Avoid flying around the bridge as officers might not like the idea.
- Keep the bird over water or parks, do not go close/over to people and/or buildings.
That place is huge... plan your story/shots and go for it.
In Canada you cannot land or take off an aircraft in a national park without special permission of the park superintendent. They consider a UAV (Drone) and aircraft thus pretty much making it illegal to fly in a national park unless you have super range and a big battery so you can take off outside the park and then fly in.

Very nice pic.
However... if I am not mistaken, that is restricted air space (Canada). I wanted to fly my ultra light over the Falls and down the river this past summer, but was told a definite NO.
The sight seeing helicopters all have special permissions.
