It looks like a coal power station and the chimney is venting a huge amount of heat which he flew straight into.I reckon at one point the pilot would be thinking I'm gonna make it!!!  LOL

If you land at the first sign of trouble, (called  a clue) you'll live to fly another day. Some of the guys fly like they have an extra $1.300 sitting in the bank to buy another bird. If that's the case, great..

Why didn't you fly on the up wind side instead of in the smoke and or heat?

My thoughts exactly. Should have brought it down when control was recovered the first time. At the very least, the second time.

If one of my Quads burps, it comes down. I would rather bring it down than have it fall out of the sky and the possibility of hurting someone or their property. Actually  if there are people around I bring it down and move on. My fear is that if there was a problem and the fail safes didn't kick in and it went on it's own. That would bother to no end!

I'm always a bit surprised how quickly people are to criticise.
1) It looked to me like he was trying to bring the bird down after the initial loss of control (it was certainly in descent from the time of the initial incident).
2) Clearly there were control issues. (Inverted flight???) so the pilot may have not had lots of choice as to where or how the aircraft was flying

It certainly a crazy bit of footage.
