hi guys can someone point me in the right direction as to updating my RC .. im running 1.1.9 at the moment both bird and rc but my HDMI board wont work on 1.1.9 . i want to update my radio  to 1.2.6 or 1.2.8  and iv read some stuff on here and the net but it differs  so im confused .. i want to keep the bird 1.1.9 so thats why i need to update to 1.2.6 or 1.2.8 .. my rc is the GL300A version ... thanks guys ....

     The download page has v.1.2.6 for P3P and v. 1.2.8 for P3A.  They work for both type of RC.  

     v.1.2.6 and v. 1.2.8 are not able to work on both Advanced and Professional RC.  It is either one or the other.  If you try to put them on the wrong one, it will seriously screw you up.  You should just dive in and solve the problems later like the rest of us.  All you have to do is follow the directions.  And we are here to help.

thank you Cetaman all I have to do now is figure out how to do it .. some say do it with a USB stick and some say do it via the app ... im not vey good at this stuff and I don't want to mess it up ....

so iv tried updating the rc with a USB stick and it doesn't work can anyone tell me why ... I unzipped the file and put it on an empty USB stick and nothing happens .... I cant update using the bird because I want to keep 1.1.9 fw in it ....

     Good to hear you are going to take the dive into the deep end!  Not to worry though, at least it is not off the high dive.

     You are working with the early firmware and updates, so the downloads and updates from the app are over the horizon.  

What version of the DJI Go app are you using?  

What type of P3 are you flying?  You have to download the right file for the right type of P3.

     The first few installs are SD card in a USB stick.  Remember to just put the .bin file in the root (first level) directory; for example  G:\_________.bin.  Or some of the newer computers have; (G) _____________.bin.

     It is important that you answer the questions and ask more of your own.  Create a work area that is clear of metal and electric interference.  The larger the metal the farther you want to be from it.  A magnetized screwdriver next to or under the camera gimbal can really screw things up (the antennae are right there).  I had a house fan operating on the other side of a glass door and it was real quiet and the reflection kept it out of view.  That really screwed me up.  I moved into the house and solved my problem.

     We should not bite off more than we can chew, so I recommend that we upgrade in steps with you flying your P3 for a day or two between steps.  You will let me know when you want to continue.  We are on other sides of the world, so our communications will be off by 6 to 18 hours and then there is living our lives - we cannot fly drones all the time!  Others will also jump in when we cover a subject that they are familiar with, so there will be distractions that will be helpful.  And then there are the cynical ones - you know who you are!  But they are fun to.  So basically, this is not going to be a fast job, but we will learn a lot in the process!

iv been trying to update the RC for about 6 hours now and it just wont work ... iv unzipped the file from DJI website formatted my USB stick and put the bin file on it .. I plug it in and nothing happens ..

im at the end of my patient zone and im going to send it to a guy in England and let him have a go ....

iv been reading dozens of threads saying that the RC wont update using a USB stick so im not hopeful it will get done ...

my set up is p3a with gl300a and im trying to use goggles but the HDMI board doesn't work because of the old FW in the RC ....  thanks for your help and I will let you know how I get on when I send the RC away ..

     When I installed my HDMI module on my P3P, it required the DJI Go app version 2.3.0 or nothing would happen.  So I installed the app and it took control and installed RC v. 1.2.6 for Professional (I think, but it did install a newer version).  I can check that because it was part of an earlier discussion on HDMI modules.  The RC then updated the P3 to the required firmware because the old one will not work with the HDMI module.

     The HDMI module requires software to make it work.  Because you have already installed the HDMI module nothing will work until you get a DJI Go app version that can handle the HDMI module.  Then the app will make sure the other updates and firmware are installed because the HDMI module cannot work without the required software.  When I installed my HDMI module was the first time I experienced the app doing the updates without USB assistance.  

     All in all, it was the easiest and fastest installation I have experienced so far.  I was surprised.

     I think you may be up against DJI here.  They may have designed it so that you can only activate the HDMI module their way.  This would make sense since DJI is taking Inspire technology and allowing you to install it on your P3 Advanced.  They would want it to be done their way since it is a mash-up of two of their technologies.

     Your best results may be to Post another thread with the title:

HDMI Module - Any Luck with Older Updates and Firmware?

The new thread will get users attention and anyone with experience along the line you want to try can assist you.  You should try it!

     If you do decide to move up the firmware versions, you have to go step by step.  Find the sequence of where you are, what firmware version it is, and what you want to load last, what firmware version it is.  Then look for the versions in between and load them and fly them in steps.  Load it, check it to see if all the parts link and work together.  If there are new options, check to see if they work (if you have a question ask me, some problems are unique to tablets and phones).  Fly your P3 to see if it works properly for a day or two.  Solve any problems you have - we can help!  And then finally arrive at the stage you want everything to work at.

     The biggest problem to understand is that there are three microcomputers in a network.  Your device (tablet or phone), the Remote Controller and the P3.  The tablet and the RC are networked with a MicroUSB cable and the RC and the P3 are networked by radio.  Communications from the app to the P3 have to go through the RC for the connection to the P3.  So you can see that the links are extremely important.  That is why at each stage of an update or installation, the system has to be rebooted (restarted) so the links can be established.  The links are tested by ultimately flying the P3 (oh, the suffering).  Makes you want to like tests, yeah!

     Keep these things in mind as you go through the process.

yes mate I will do .... if I can get the RC to update and get the HDMI board to work and the bird flies then I will be happy .... I cant believe the trouble you have to go to to get this thing working ....

What is the problem you have with the HDMI output, you have enables the option in the app assume,

when updating the RC make sure the craft is off also

the HDMI board does not work with the old FW that's in my RC, and it works in another RC belonging to a guy in England who tested it for me .... when im trying to update the RC im trying it the way it should be done to the letter ....

edit .... yes its turned on in the app ....

so basically I have 400 pounds worth of FPV gear that cant be used because DJI have made it that you cant update your RC to the next FW up from the FW you have ....

very very frustrating to say the least ....

My RC updated via the internet, using the connection between the iPad and my home WiFi network. The Go App simply said it needed to be updated, I agreed and off it went. You should not have the aircraft powered on though at the time.

The GL300A can(could) be updated via USB,  this changed after V1.4 as controllers from that point onwards i can only be updated via the App, be below V1.4 is via USB

The Gl300B can not be updated via USB

Are you sure you have not updated it already to a newer version via the App?

Please go to the following screen in the DJI go app and tell me what it says,

Settings Menu in DJI GO, Go to the 3 dots (bottom option and click About,

to confirm you could fit the original board and try to update that, that would confirm it is the HDMI board

believe it or not the FW is on a couple of boards because the guy in England who tested the board for me has the latest FW in his RC but with my board on his RC the app tells him his RC FW is 1.2.6 .... on my RC im getting 1.1.9 ....

I think I will just give up and sell the goggles and board .... its a sad day when you pay this much money for an item and its useless to you because of stupid bloody FW glitches ...

I don't even want to phone DJI cause they wont have a clue ....

Very few have had FW problems with the controller,

Try putting the original board in, Updating to 1.3.20 then put the HDMI back in and try updating that to 1,320,

It may be some kind of conflict with the versions

tried the old board and its the same .... iv gave up now ... thanks for those who helped me with this ....

I found the problem .... when I put my old board back in my FW in the RC is 1.1.8 and with the HDMI board in the FW is 1.1.9 .... so because the FW is not only on the HDMI board and is in fact on a couple of boards in the RC I must have a mixture of FWs ... I found out the board does work with 1.1.9 but because another board in my RC is 1.1.8 it wont work ...

the HDMI board does not work with 1.1.8 because its too old .... even though I found the problem I still wont be able to use the board because my RC wont update but I thought id let you guys know in case someone else is having the same problem ....

so why not put the old board in, update the controller to 1.320 then put the HDMI board in and update that to 1.320 then your good.

I am not sure why your having so much problems here as i have not seen one other report of issues with the HDMI board and controller firmware,

Yes after changing the board it asks to update again but once thats done your good to go.

the radio wont update with the old board in ... the HDMI board is working fine but not in my radio because of the old FW ....

the internet and forums are full of people not being able to update their radios ....

if I update using the app it will update to the very latest FW and I don't know if it will work with 1.1.9 being in the bird ....

also using the app to update only works with radios on 1.3.20 or newer ....

im sorry if I come across as negative all the time but im quite ok with the situation and im hoping to find a fix some day ....

You can't update with the app, the controller must be on V1.320 before the app will update it,

V1.320 added the ability to update via DJI Go

if you can't update via USB to V1.320 then you wont ever be able to update at all.

You need to send it into DJI sadly.

that's the thing mate .. iv read about people being able to update using the app from older FW such as 1.1.9 / 1.2.8 ... my mate bought a phantom a few weeks back and it was 1.1.9 but his RC is on the latest FW because he thinks he updated it using the app by mistake ....

if that's the case will his be ok ? .. does 1.4.30 RC be ok with 1.1.9 in the bird ? ...  my mate is very stupid for messing about with his settings without me being there to teach him what to do but he might have come across something that will help people out ....   there are a couple of new posts on here saying that they have bricked their RCs trying to update using the app .... its all very messed up as to what you can and cant do ....

I will prob send my RC back to see if they can do something with it ....

Have you tried the old P3-gimbal-USB-reader trick?

Did you know that the most compatible USB stick is the one built on the P3 gimbal?
Unzip the 1.3.2 firmware onto the original 16gig card that DJI supplied you.
Insert the SD into the gimbal board. Remove the gimbal clamp and power on the P3. Use the micro USB cable the DJI supplied (this is a DATA usb cable). Insert the small micro end into the gimbal and insert the square end into the GL300A controller and power on the controller. Watch the led change colours and listen to the audible beeps. It shouldn't take no longer than 5minutes.
