Does the change from 10 to 12bit have a similar effect than increasing the bit rate to more than 50?

I noticed that in the new firmware there is a change in the bit width. My question is if this change have a similar effect than making an increment in the bit rate. In my ignorance I imagine that being wider it could send more info at a time working at the same 60mbs.
