DJI was still working on follow me for the Inspire 1. They never said it was not going to come out. The AutoFlight Pilot App has it for the inspire and it works just fine

That's exactly my point - maybe they should be politicians with the 180's they do.

DJI made a statement that with the mass/inertia of the Inspire 'Follow Me' would not be implemented on the platform due to safety concerns.

Now, all of a sudden - It's safe!!!

Does this work with the basic inspire? (Non-pro)

The statement that 'Follow Me' was unsafe has obviously been retconned by the same process that made the implementation of waypoints and nav compliant with DJI's promises.

I have not been waiting for Follow me - but others have .
Now it is here.

I am stunned by all negativism a (for many) positive news can bring along.

I,ve not downloaded the firmware as yet. Does anyone know if follow me works on the basic Inspire or is it just the Pro?

It is as easy as this:

Insprie 1 + X3 - do not use the FW ( and follow me does not work at the moment )
Inspire 1 + X5 - use the new FW ( and follow me will work )
Inspire Pro - use the new FW ( and follow me will work )

I sure hope the trend of DJI is not only generating firmware upgrades for Inspire-1 with X5 and Inspire Pro? see follow me functionality!

Do not use the new FW if you have the Inspire 1 with X3. The new FW is not ment for that setup - ( but surly some will be brave/stupid enough to try it - just to get Follow me )

But I have both x3 and x5 running on latest firmware as recommended by DJI. Are you saying that I shouldn't now be flying my I1 with latest firmware and x3 camera?

So...  Now the Phantom 3 has follow me mode, the Inspire Pro has follow me mode, but the original Inspire 1 doesn't get it?  What in the hell is the point of that?

I know that this is not logical at all - I see that.
My setup is exactly as yours - but the new FW is for those who have Inspire 1 with X5 camera and those with Inspire pro.

Here is what the editor of Inspirepilots write about the theme (using the new FW on a non upgraded Inspire 1 ) :
"Well, theoretically this would work as the Inspire Pro FW senses whether X3 or X5:is fitted. The esc FW would be ignored so (in theory everything should work)
However, we are talking about DJI software here which can be flakey on a good day and I for one am not willing to try this 'Frankenstein Experimental' step"
