That was taken in Ogunquit Maine. Was flying from the deck of the Seachambers Motel but you could launch anywhere along the Marginal way.  It was wicked awesome. You should go. I'm in Western Ma.

Thanks labroides for the link.

I will follow the instructions on this post and your link to the letter.  I DO NOT WANT to have another experience like the one described.

RE compass calibration, I thought that the compass needed to be calibrated on or very near the home point for GPS to work properly.  Apparently GPS and compass calibration are not related?

Please reply to above.

Thanks,
Chris

The compass and GPS are completely separate.
It's not necessary to recalibrate a perfectly good compass every flight and unnecessary recalibration introduces the risk of a bad calibration.
Understanding what it's all about will help you to fly safe.

I would have to say 75% of the flying I do is over water.  Never even thought twice about it.  From day one with my P2V+ I was flying over water.  Day one with the P3P was flying over water.  Just don't get why people get all antsy about it.

The point that Tim is making is that one should turn off the VPS when below 3M. He also states that over that, no problem. He is not stating that you are going to ditch in the water, only that the VPS can get confused when at low altitude over water.

This was my first flight over water. My heart was pounding when as the bird faded out of site and I had to use FPV on a Note III to fly her around the rocks and back to me.

Good job and I hear ya on the out of sight moments. I don't like that at all and avoid it as much as possible. The erosion at the end, is that constant?

Thanks! And nice catch on the cliff erosion... thought most folks would think it was from the Quad.

The whole cliff is unstable adding to the stress of the flight. But that was the closest direct point to my target which was the surf zone. I might have been able to make it there as it was only about 200 hundred feet more than the 1200 or so I already traveled; you can see a couple surfers when I stop before my turn. But I was super sketched about the whole situation... out of site P3S, fading light and crumbling cliff behind me, so this being my first flight over water I was happy to fly by the rocks and bring her in safely.

Stephen,

I fly with the Litchi (Android) app. I can take the flight data from the Litchi logs and pull them into a free program called Dashware (Dashware). I can then merge the data from the flight logs onto the video.

The on;ly way I will be flying over water is if I fly in my bathroom and make a pass over the toilet. It's mighty dry here where I live. And if a wave splashes up and hits my Phantom in that situation,  well , I got bigger things to worry about than warranty repair.
