Contact the CAA NZ and get a permit.
It is illegal in most countries to drop anything from an RPAS without one.

well, i am pretty sure that DJI is not going to release a hook to drop the things, so the only way to go is to DIY one

What he said - Do your research and make sure you have the regulatory aspect well sorted before you try this!

This is good way to attract the attention of the FAA and FBI...  Our AMA organization has rules regarding models, it is a felony crime to launch anything from model aircraft. I have seen flour bombs (power bags) dropped straight down from models at airshows, but this is by permit only.

Great policy Tim. Especially considering the state of the World today. I have to testify in regard to Legislation in regard to Quads before the Legislature next month. This is one of the issues that will be discussed and is of deep concern.

Hi Rich,

The AMA may well have a recommendation on this but dropping items from an aircraft is not against the FARs.

Please see Sec. 91.15 — Dropping objects.

"No pilot in command of a civil aircraft may allow any object to be dropped from that aircraft in flight that creates a hazard to persons or property. However, this section does not prohibit the dropping of any object if reasonable precautions are taken to avoid injury or damage to persons or property."

Is there a different federal regulation I missed?

I created my own for under 25 dollars US. I used some 25mm clamps from XM hobbies, and some 3/32' s hollow SS tubing from the hardware store. I used a small hand tubing bender to get the shape I wanted. If any ones wants more specs on how I did it let me know. I am trying to locate black clamps.

didn't really drop anything, but I once used a drone....non DJI.....to thread a piece of thick fishing line over a branch, high in a gum tree to pull a dipole antenna up for coms during a camping trip lol....

Thanks for sharing the DIY drone. Drop things on our drone is really dangerous and users will be responsible for the crash because of that.
