A notice on the DJI Go app that says Battery Requires Upgrade.  All firmware is up to date.

Can any tell me what I need to do to upgrade the battery?

This is assuming you are already have the latest update on your Inspire 1 (Inspire_1_Firmware v1.4.0.10)

Go to the DJI web site.  Download the latest version 1.4, and the 1.4 upgrade instructions. Follow the instructions.....
Basically you need the put the firmware on the SD card, insert card in the camera, turn inspire 1 on, controller off. Wait for the battery to update and get the update tones.  Repeat this for each battery

Correct! you have to make sure that the firmware file is on a SD card
