Other than the upgraded motors, props, esc's, and compass is there anything on the quad thats different?
(From what Ive seen it doesnt make the quad that much faster)
The intergraded battery on the v2's remote sounds pointless and the trainer port I'd never use.
I also dont mind installing an aftermarket pitch control on the v1 remote if the pitch control is crap.

Do you mean version 3? The RC has that gimbal control wheel, too.
You've listed most of upgrades of version 3... The answer to your question is relative to the user's expectations.
The answer it's yes for most of the users and maybe no for some. If your interest is mainly speed, then probably the answer is indeed no.
The training port may be used in the future. I see no point to add such a feature and not add some support for it in the future. For example, I've used my training port on my old Spektrum 6 remote many times, mainly using it with a flight simulator.
