Slow roasted smoked Phantom for lunch, anyone?
Nice video.  At 3:11,  the smoking boulders rolling down the side was pretty cool looking.  All those smoking cracks make it look like it is about to pop at any second.  I would have my GO bag ready at all times.

Some answers:

to Starfighters: Etna is 3333m tall, I had to reach the highest allowed height of 3500m.a.s.l. to fly as close as possible to the farthest summit crater; not very far, 2km at most.
to Ithacus: yes, I tried to avoid acidic gases, but sometimes good videos require some risk.

Thats a great video. I would had love to be able to be thare to a video like that.

Yes, during eruptions all flights must avoid Etna airspace (in a radius of many tens of km), but there are anyway scientific helis sometimes flying over it. Anyway, I did never fly higher than 120m above local ground (home point was always lower than the summit), following rules. Regarding distance restrictions, it is not clear what you mean: Etna is empty of people, so that you fly at your risk only, it's almost impossible to harm somebody (the battery will die for sure before reaching some village at many kms)
