There is a defunct horse track just up the road that happens to be in between the only two no fly zones in the area.  A local RC club flies there once a month weather permitting.  In September one of the people had a large scale fighter jet.  Not quite as large as the one in the video you posted.  But close.  It was something to watch the jet fly.

Different times, different skills. I imagine  these guys  are becoming a rare breed.  I think Osprey phantom here on the forum is one of the true RC GUYS, I am sure there's more but not sure who else.  Maybe they can pipe up!

I once saw a 9/10ths scale P-51 Mustang r/c.  I thought to myself, Why not just go the other 10th and have a full sized Mustang to fly?

That was impressive!  I recently took up fixed wing at my local club, and now have a small fleet of 3 micros (Champ, P51, Sport Cub) and 3 park size - Apprentice, T-28, and Pt-40.

I love flying my P3 Pro and also my fixed wings!

I can see nothing wrong with the word 'piddly.' It has its own entry in Merriam Webster - see http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/piddly. All I would say to Fulgerite is "What a load of piffle!" I haven't been on here for ages - I see I've missed nothing!!!

I've been flying RC planes/jets for over 30 years and I can tell you that "any" aircraft is exciting no matter how small or inexpensive it is, well at least for me. Although I do not have anything close to those big ones I do have a F-18 Hornet and P-51 Mustang that are both 8'+ in length and both took 100's of hours of building to finish. Here's a couple pics of them.

I wish I could find one. I had a professional one of it when I flew in the Airshow but can't find it now. If I do find one I'll post it.

Geebax, yes, it was a custom built one I believe with a 427 in it and it did sound awesome.

OK, I found a video of my son-in-laws F-18 Hornet that was exactly like mine but I must warn you, the ending is not good. The cause was a weak wing spar that could not handle the G's.

I don't know who was broke up more, the plane or the dumbfounded pilot?

Have lots of fun vacuuming up the large debris field.

There are tons of destroyed incredible models.

But let's not dwell too long on those.

Grieve and move on. Rebuild. Ha

Hi thumb. thanks for your post and your pics. I too have been into rc everything since 1981. brings back a lot of memories. The pic with the Blue Angels...  I've seen that somewhere before. was it in one of the AMA magazines?

I had a Byron Ducted fan F16 (6ft length) which was stolen a long time ago. currently working on a 1/4 scale clipped wing cub (10ft wing span). however these new birds with all the fancy electronics are hardly toys. I have a P3A and loving it. it's really too easy to fly (in P mode) compared to what I've flown in the past. Atti mode is fun and a bit challenging. haven't figured out how to manually trim the bird. not sure if you can. anyway, I enjoyed your post and the pics. Thank you.

thumb,  those photos are awesome,  I have no idea how you can get the plane skins so sleek and smooth.  Great job!  I imagine that you had to wear a diaper the first time you flew these birds (please, please, please don't crash!)    Thanks for sharing!
