Plus this was not some irresponsible idiot hobbyist. This was a professional drone with a broadcast TV camera. This has nothing to do with firmware, the FAA or Kanye West's concerns whatever that means. I'm not going to look it up because I don't care what Kanye West's opinion is about anything at all.

What’s New：
1.      In cold environments, propulsion output is automatically adjusted based on battery temperature and cell voltage. Horizontal and vertical speed is also decreased to avoid triggering battery protection.  

The new firmware addresses the recent issues of batteries entering protection mode in colder weather (shutting down and falling from the sky). I think that is what he means in the OP

Jkeller84, exactly what I meant. As usual there are always trolls with a total lack of imagination and pea size brains roaming the forums who don't even read the release notes.
This was a professional drone with TV camera operated by a sports-marketing agency. They had the authorization to flight but with 2 restrictions: do not fly above the track and be a minimum 15m behind the skier. They did not respect it and now drones are totally banned from the event.
The reason of the crash is unknown but it is quite possible to be due to the cold affecting the battery.
The new FW also provides Optimized battery management - regardless of temperature - and even if you do not live in a cold place you should apply the update. DJI do not provides any information on what this optimization is but it could be related to Phantoms crashing when starting with a battery not fully chrged but I would recommend anyone to start with a fully chrged battery.

Hey Bud-

Not a troll here and thank you for assuming that I don't read anything (sounds like trolling to me). I read everything I can, release notes, user manuals cover to cover, etc. I know what the 1.6 upgrade does. I just did not make the connection between a 100+lb. multi-rotor behemoth with a television camera and a little Phantom. Sorry I am so dim.

i don't think I will update yet. So far, I haven't even had to put a jacket on this year yet

How about a clear statement of the connection, which is a  weak one anyway., and way less negative attitudes.
