I'm afraid the numbers are going to scare folks.   I was talking with a friend this morning and it occurred to me that the Drone hobby's recent success and in the near future will actually cause the hobby to be outlawed.  It may have been better when drones were $3,000 and only a few had them.  Imagine when they are $300 and every 12 year old has one.  What then?

I dont think the rc hobby will  not be outlawed. Its the careless people that are giving the UAS ( drone ) a bad name.  Have you noticed that the general public is calling anything that flys with a remote control a drone now days?    Hopefully the high end ones stay in the same price range that they are in now. The types you can buy at the toy stores that have a range of about 350 ft  shouldn't  be a concern nor should you have to register those.

I realize I suck at spelling via mobile phone. stupid giant fingers.

Yeah, that's right. The FAA is gonna drop it due to low registration. Dude, I've seen your posts railing about this stupid law, but think about it. What does the government do every time technology begins to cause problems I.e. Planes, trains, automobiles, Internet, ad nauseum. They regulate to protect against the idiots spying on their neighbors, flying over crowds, buzzing accident scenes and fire lines. We have to be protected from ourselves! Get over it, fly however you want, registered or not. It's up to you.

When the next 3 years are up, the FAA will be making a large amount of money. Just take the 45,000 registered now and you times that at $5.00 per drone ( Pilot ) guess what, that is $2.250,000.00 as an example. There's no way when all of us register after the next 3 years the FAA will just drop it and not have to register. They will probably invest a large portion of it in between registrations and where will all this money go?  I would think the price would also increase at some point and time. What doesn't go up in price over time. Funny how after all these years the FAA didn't really want anything to do with the RC world until drones came out. Well this is just something to think about.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !

45,000x5=225,000 not 2,250,000

Pesky zeros ruin everything

...still a lot of money though!

Registration is for all UAS. Not just drones. Registration covers all the aircraft you own.
