I just got a Phantom 3 as a gift, and I don't have a smartphone. What are my cheapest options to get started, including any activation fees for the phone? I currently have a Tracfone, that suits me just fine. I have highspeed internet with wifi for my home computer. What are my options?

I am also wondering what kind of tablet is needed. I have an iphone 6 plus, however after just two flights I realized that it is way too small to actually see anything. I have an old original ipad 1 or 2, but I am wondering if because of its age will it slow down/ cause lag in the video?
any help would be great
(:

thanks rebel, I just tried to use my ipad 2 with no luck, so I guess if I want a bigger screen I will have to go out and buy one. I guess my question is what are my options for getting a tablet but with a cheap price tag because I will only be using it as a screen for my drone haha spending another at least 450 after taxes for an ipad screen seems crazy o:

Try the LG Tribute. Great screen, expandable storage, and starts at $39.

Just remember, using a cheap device probably won't have enough processing power to fully run the DJI GO app. it may work a little but have choppy video, or it may not work at all.
You should use one of the listed ones below.

Compatible with iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad Air Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad Air 2, iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad mini 3, and iPad mini 3 Wi-Fi + Cellular. This app is optimized for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus.
Android Version v2.4.3. Requires Android 4.1.2 or later. Compatible with Samsung tabs 705c, Samsung S6, Samsung S5, Samsung NOTE4, Samsung NOTE3, Google Nexus 9, Google Nexus 7 II, Ascend Mate7, Huawei P8 Max, Nubia Z7 mini, Sony Xperia Z3, MI 3, MI PAD, Smartisan T1

i use a Samsung tab4. It works great but i have everything that isnt needed for flying disabled. Around $100 here in Canada. More expensive options are an option.

I used my Samsung S5 for a week until I got the Nexus 7 (Gen. 2) from Ebay for $75. It works flawlessly. Also, I download maps for offline use for wherever I might be flying. Then I don't need cellular service, just wi-fi at home.
Since I bought my P3S in September, I have had zero issues with firmware updates, communication, loss of video, etc. I'm really happy with the whole experience so far. I shoot pictures on as many days as I can with suitable weather.
Google just pushed an upgrade to their latest android OS and the Nexus tablet is working great. The Go app is fast and responsive to the touch. I do not have it loaded with any unnecessary apps, so it is running clean. I don't think I could say that about my Galaxy phone. I have way to many other tools in that toolbox since I use it for many purposes. Flying is not one of them. For me, a little phone would be a hassle to operate the camera controls and flight function buttons and sliders, especially in the cold weather with my touch sensitive gloves.

You might want to check the date before replying to a thread. The last reply was December 30th 2015. Just saying, cause I have done it also.

No, they dont get notifications because you did not reply to anyone's comment, without that they don't know you did it. And the person you are replying to has most probably left the forum months ago, most do not stay here long.
