You can try SHURE VP83F, the delay of audio is quite small, we've tested, it can works well with Osmo.

Exactly! Surely this can be done? VoIP is occuring through wireless? Why not audio as well , but through headphone jack of smartphone?

Well, I personally never tried it... as I ignored the audio capability of Osmo, but I better leave it to DJI staff to reply this discussion, or add this capability on the next update.
Someone is also asking similar feature: http://forum.dji.com/thread-37935-1-1.html

Live audio from the app is not available currently. But you can use the mic I've suggested to monitor the audio during recording.

Another nudge for this. It should be pretty easy to implement as you're already transferring the video..

Much needed improvement here.  I use a lav microphone and can plug headphones in to the receiver.  However, that isn't post OSMO and that's the most important step.  Thank you for considering this for future enhancements to a ground breaking product.

To what I understand, the video transferred to the phone actually uses the audio from the phone microphone instead of the Osmo.

Incorrect. Audio is out outed through default osmo mic or external connected when circuit is closed .
