I was able to update my P3P to Firm 1.6 and everything is back up and running. I have been out a few times and everything was good.
Today I put my P3P in the garage for about 4 hour in the off state. I then took it out to fly and when I tried the auto take off I got
Battery to cold warning.. I checked the Temp in the app and it showed 10C for Battery temp.. SO...... Whats the deal no info that I can find
on this???? What temp does this trip at? It was getting late so I just came in and checked the forum but I do not see anything about this yet.
Am I the first?

1.6 has battery protection in the software so you don't have an incident in cold weather. a really cold battery is not good to fly with and the battery needs to be in a warmer temperature to power up the Phantom. Just put them in your jacket pockets for a few minutes an they should work.

Had the same problem yesterday. Just warm up the batteries and no problem. Flew 3 batteries about 15 min each. 14 degrees calm winds no problems. Just make sure there warm to start.

We need a battery warmup box hah.. the p3 wont take off until at 10c and the inspire 12c, so no more start and hover to warm your batteries, keep them in a warm place... other thing i did the other morning is I have a small hot water bottle, put it in a pillow case with 4 batteries and had no probs, but make sure the bottle dont leak....

This is great news!
You might wanna increase it a little bit though, I lost mine when the battery temp started just below that.
I even hovered for half a minute and flew pretty smoothly, slowly increasing throttle. Crashed with 51% battery remaining.

Sounds like you are closing in on a solution!

Did you lose your drone with the new protection in place?

I dont think so because the battery temp was a little (0.05c) bit below 10c and it still started.

If you look at the battery info page (tap on the battery icon) on the app, it displays battery temperature.  You will see as it flies it gets warmer rather than colder.

I know that 1.6 firmware has revised the "Battery Protection" scheme, and it's important to update.  What I'd like to know is two things:

1.  Has the routine of shutting off the battery power under any circumstance while flying been removed?
2.  What prior firmware revisions had the "Shut off Battery" protection scheme enabled?  Was it just 1.4 (since 1.5 didn't have a battery update)?

So the people who never went past 1.4 ...the batteries should be 1.3.2? Is this correct?

I don't see anything about a battery update in the 1.4 release notes, I will look into it Monday.

I don't recall any battery update in 1.5.   And what everyone at DJI is saying is 1.6 is a must have update with battery optimization, but no detail on exactly what that optimization included.  Many reports have been logged of 1.5 and before firmware shutting of the power during flight, which sounds absurd, but it's happening.  The 1.6 is supposed to fix that.  However, it also decreased horizontal acceleration and max vertical ascent speed.  My V-ascend went from 5m/s to 3m/s.  I notice in the FAQs for Phantom 3P in the DJI site it still states 5m/s for max vertical ascent speed, but that's not the case anymore.

Mine did the same thing. I breathed on it for about 15 seconds, put it in and it flew wonderfully.

So if I fly with FW 1.4 I run the risk of battery shutting off? or the contrary? Please advise. I am in NY and temps are 0c right now. Thanks!

The 1.6 takes care of all the battery issues. The ascent is 5m/s and descent is 3m/s

It's advised to update to 1.6 and if in really cold weather, keep your batteries in your jacket pocket or another way t keep them warm.

It seems like my phantom doesn't climb as quickly with the new 1.6 firmware. Am I just imagining things, or are others experiencing similar issues?

Just had this issue. I have flown many times below 0 but I guess I always started with a warm battery. It is below 15 C here 6 months of the year so I can't just move to California to fly my drone. I do put tape over all the air vents when flying below 0 and that seems to really help the heat from the battery and components keep each other warm.
