I already own the handheld for my Inspire 1 X3 Cam... so... anyway. I pluged in a Sony EC 717 Stereo Mic and it works... I only have to check if I have one or two channels. :-)

What matters is how many recording  channels exist. Not if a pl stereo plug works.

Despite it is stereo my advise is using a mono mic as the iGoMic mini shotgun. At the heart of the iGoMicTM Mini Shotgun is a 9mm diameter cardioid condenser capsule that provides studio-quality audio. All-copper interference tube body ensures that surrounding audio is minimized and your recording is focused on the subject in front of the camera and so avoiding the fan noise.
It is my conclusion after days of research and its weights is only 26 grams.

I've just checked with a RØDE Stereo VideoMic Pro.

Both channels contain the same audio. i.e. The output is Dual Mono.

@LenMiddx
Both channels are the same? That means that one of the channels is doubled?!

So you mean you get a stereo audio file with the exact same audio o both channels?

I think a more accurate test would be use a pl plug splitter and connect to it two totally different sources. not a onw stereo mic.

The question is whether the 3.5mm Osmo microphone input records stereo. It doesn't. It's mono.

If it was recording in stereo, you would see a similar waveform in both channels -- but with differing amplitudes. In this case the recordings are identical.
