Too much bitrate? Try using VLC, it opens EVERY format, but if your computer can't handle it you will see weird artifacts in the video.

You can download VLC from this link:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

Should be able to play the 4k files after you install that.

Yep, try VLC.  I always have to save my 4k video as 1080p on my MacBook Pro because it won't play 4K smoothly.  I use Quicktime to do that.

I think the new release is a 4K without the ground station. Could be wrong, but that is why I asked.

you have to have a good computer to play 4K...
Also I never use 2 things on PC: Windows media player and Internet Explorer. This two are very troublesome...
Please try to use VLC player

With 4K video and editing , your computer should be running an intel I-7 processor, at least 16gb of ram and a higher end video card. Most older computers can't run 4k smoothly.

what about Graphics Card?

Depending on your budget minimum  a GeForce GTX 750Ti. type video card. I use EVGA GeForce GTX 960  and it does the job for me. Like to step it up , but can't afford the extra 600 for the card I want. I 'm running an intel I-7 950, with 16 gb of ram and SD hard drive and still not as fast as I would like. But new computer not in the equation at this time.

Windows Media Player only supports to play MP4 files encoded with MPEG-4 compression codec, however, the MP4 footage recorded by DJI Phantom 3 are compressed with H.264 codec, in addition, only Windows Media Player running on Windows 8.1 supports to play 4K video files.

I had the same problem with the video from my P3P. I am planning to use video on youtube so I bought a video converting software so I could use the converted video in Windows Movie Maker.

The issue as stated by Maxwhiteuv is a codec issue...try installing this http://www.cccp-project.net/ it will at least let u play them...but may not play well depending on your PC specs.
hope that helps

I think the best advice is to install VLC Player, and forget WMP. The VLC Player even has support for GPU acceleration.

From what I saw, a 4K video exported as 1080p looks the same as the same video being shot in 1080p. If I don't have a 4K TV is worth filming in 4K?

Not really, in my opinion. Just use 1080p until you have something to view 4k on.

HI Geebax tried VLC could'nt  get it to work seamlessly on my very average laptop. Now trying K-lite Codec Pack for me it runs far better than VLC.Running the standard pack includes media player classic and MADVR etc,Still trying to get my head round all the complexities  involved as out-sourcing video editing is very expensive.Any comments would be appreciated

If your computer has a 1080 screen, where  would be no sense to try and watch it in 4K. My laptop is fast.. Intell I7, Geforce 960, 16 gb ram and a 1080 screen. So I watch the vids in 1080 on the laptop and 4K on my TV.
