Hi everybody! This is my first post on this forum and my second attempt in putting together a short clip of shots filmed with my Phantom 3 Professional.

A friend of mine and I are passionate about drones and decided to start a small business of aerial imaging in Luxembourg. We have been reading this forum for quite some time, gathering information on DJI products and finally have decided to purchase a Phantom 3 Professional, which we have been using for several months now.

I would like to express my gratitute to the members of this forum for your contribution to the drone community - it is really helpful to find answers to almost every question that one may have about drones! Thank you also for sharing your creations on this forum - this is the best way for others to learn and is a great inspiration to try for yourself. Finally, a special thanks to Frederick Hagan and Jim Hare for their great tutorials in the field of video making and color grading with DJI products!


A few weeks ago I visited the island of Saint-Martin in the Caribbeans, where i had the opportunity to take some beautiful shots. This was filmed with a Phantom 3 Professional coupled with a GND filter. The movie was assembled in FCPX and color graded in Davinci Resolve.

I didn't have any issues with the drone while travelling, however I did some research on the international aviation rules and airline policy regarding the drones. I would also suggest checking for any applicable local regulation in case you go to another country (for instance some countries in the Caribbean require paying taxes for bringing the drone, even if you are just visiting!).

I used the course lock mode parallel to the beach and while flying forward did the rotation. Using this mode really helps to get shots of that kind.

the highest I went was about 150meters while filming the boat, as the laguna was surrounded by two high hills and I wanted to get the sky behind.

I have some nice shots left that I didn't use in the video, unfortunately none of those are inland, as the flight corridors for takeoff from both airpoirts lay over the island and I didn't want to take any risk..

Beautiful video. I went to Saint Maarten the year before last but I spent so little time there because it was just one of the stops of our cruise. Now I feel like I've seen much more of it. Thanks!

I came across your post looking for information on flying a drone in St. Marten. I am a new drone owner and trying to stay within any rules and guidelines. It is difficult to find a source for the rules on some of these Caribbean islands. I was curious if you were able to find any rules for St. Marten? It appears that most of your footage was on the French side and the north end of the island and within a mile of a nearby airport (Grand Case). It appears that there is almost nowhere on the island that is not within at least 5 miles of an airport (FAA rules). Does this pose an issue flying in St. Marten?

You should have gotten a shot of Orient Beach, on the south end!  LOL!
