However  the military might  very well decide,,, to make an example of him. to discourage others from this type of behavior.  This can get quite (time consuming) and expensive... Pun intended
then what does he get out of this deal? a tube video of nothing but empty desert... maybe a few buildings way in the distance.

I don't think he was close enough to Area 51. The only videos I've seen of Area 51, they sent out patrols to watch the people when they got close. They didn't tell them anything but they kept a very close eye on them.

The only reason I remember that is the Area 51 Patrol watching everyone at that time used Ford Raptors and it was all over the Raptor forums lol They said there was only one spot you could legally climb up (just a small hill/easy climb) and watch the base...obviously it was close enough to have a patrol keep an eye on them. I've never been so i don't know for sure.

There was a spot, not too far away that you could hike up to,  and have a fairly good view of the runway.

However, in the past couple of years,  the Gubment has been purchasing (via eminent domain)  all the surrounding property, including the one spot with the high vantage point.   From what I've read, the local owners have tried to fight the land purchase (seizure), without much success.

I'm just waiting for the day when someone sends their P3P or P3A over the base.  Given that I've seen some threads showing guys successfully flying several miles,  I think that it's very close to being possible for someone to successfully make it to the base.   Getting back might be a different matter, as I'm sure any approach/overflight will stir up a huge and nasty hornets nest.

This is one of the reasons for geofence... certain red zones are a good thing.... all those yellow zones and inaccurate Zones  is what teed me off.

I don't think the Phantom 3 has enough range to fly anywhere close enough to Area 51's actual base. It is probably 25 miles from the perimeter fence to the actual base.

Yeah, well I am so old that I was at Area 50. I helped build Area 51.
