In my app menu it says n/a next to the aircraft what does this mean, also can i fly right out of the box without using the app.

If you're the beginner, it's better to practice the flight using the simulator on the app before your first flight. N/A might be caused by the disconnection of the aircraft. You need to turn on the aircraft and the Remote controller, connect your mobile device using USB cable and enter DJI GO app. Also, you can enter the app->(Right top corner) Acadamy->Video tutorial & User manual.&Simulator, all these resources can help with your fly.
