Can this be done with a simple switch selection in the app?

Hi, currently P4 only has 300C, which can be in common use with P3. The three mode switches for P4 are P\S\A Modes, for P3 are P\A\F Modes. The playback button on the top-right corner of P3 remote controller is printed with a triangle pattern, for P4 it is for exiting the Active Track Mode, or TapFly Mode. The surface panel for TapFly is processed with specular injection technics.

So  the P3A controller I already own can't be used with a P4?

Yes, if it is not 300C, it can't be used on the P4, you can check the modle at the back side of the controller.
