I used to get a max of 13 GPS satellites, and now 10 max!  Also, it drops below 6 somethings when on the ground (never did that before).  What is going on?  I remember seeing my repeater asking to update firmware, but I don't think that would do it?  Could the latest firmware load in Phantom be corrupt?  Something is not right...  Any ideas?

There have been issues and unfortunately not all are documented,
The repeater (range extender if i am thinking correct) has recently been subject to major issues on a recent update though cannot say for sure if it is what is causing the issues you are having....
I am running on 3.12 and bypassed the 3.14 so i cannot say for sure,

Eduit...and Labroides makes some good points below...it is always changing....

The number of satellites in your sky is changing all the time.
You might have just been looking at a time when there just weren't a lot up there?
You can check what's up there with the Android app GPS Status (just the round sats because the square ones are Russian Glonass sats that the p3 but not the P2 uses).

Thanks for the reply.  I did see one post where it says the GPS connector maybe the issue.  It seems to me the pins are very narrow, and may not have the best contact over long periods of time.  I will check that out...

Thanks for the reply.  I know the number of satellites are always changing, but this issue isn't that.  My satellites never dropped below 6 once they locked onto at least 6.  Something isn't right.  I think it could be a connector issue.  The pins on the GPS connector (main board) seem to be too narrow, and the connector plug may not be the best choice.

we used to change the gps antenna to the higher gain 4mm on the plus,
if you haven't done that, you may want to look at that idea.

What version Phantom Vplus is it?? V2 or V3???
Could be a cracked GPS puck - a tiny hair line can drop counts.

We can speculate all we want but without the unit and a full history it can be like calling a doctor you have never seen before for a diagnosis,,,
Some will live, some will get by and unfortunately some will never make it,,,

Changing the antenna will not solve this issue.
I tried changing the antenna on the previous GPS, and then the GPS unit no longer worked!  I think the board is very sensitive to static electricity.  I was very careful, but who knows what happened.  I still have the 4mm GPS antenna.

I did 2 myself and the difference was night and day .
but that was my experience and hundreds of others back in late 2014 and earl 2015

it works awesome if done correctly,
try resoldering yours , you may simply have had a bad solder joint

I believe the problem might be the connector on main board and the plug at the end of the GPS cable.  They don't exactly appear to be a good match for mating to each other.  The pins on the main board connector are flat, and the female connector pins on the plug are square.  There are tabs on the side that bend in, but after some time these may no longer make good contact, and that is why my satellite count may be low.  The tabs make contact with the narrow section (on the sides) of the pins.

I bent the tabs back in, and it may be a better now.  It was windy and party cloudy out, so I didn't want to take it up too high.  Will try again when it is less windy out.

I wondering what the max satellites someone has seem with the Phantom 2 Vision Plus?  I have seen a max of 13.  I wonder how many satellites it can track/lock on to?

I would like to replace the 2mm with the 4mm antenna I have... maybe someday I'll try it again, but only after this issue is solved.

my max was 13 or 14 a few times(4mm) , I think only 15 or 16 are visible.

with oem 2mm antenna I typically saw 5-8 maybe
after a bit it would hit 9 or 10 once in great while,   
or sometimes dropped to atti

also did the complete alum foil mod
and wifi heat sink mod.

I had 2 and did both .
went from waiting minutes for sat lock to under 30-40 seconds.
got solid lock of 8-10 and more at times up to 12-13 .
also shield the actual post/plug for gps (wrap alum tape) and wire all the way,
use something like plastic wire tywrap end to jam in the plg to lock it tight.

I was flying on the weekend, 1.3 yr. old P2V+ v3.0 and had 11-13 satellites the whole time, pretty much same as always,,,
Certainly possible that you have a bad connection,
I have screen shots from a year ago and could get one today/tomorrow to show you the same thing..
