Myself I'm more interested in the liability insurance. I have to wonder if you do crash, will they replace it for full value or less because of depreciation or will they have you send it out for repair? Has anyone asked these questions to their insurance agent?

It is replacement insurance. My receipt showed $1445.00 for the P3P package I bought. A bird took the aircraft out. I received a  check for $1445.00. The insurance replaces the value on the receipt. I was able to purchase a new P3P package for 999.00 (sale price) and had $446.00 left over. I then purchased a replacement P3P from B&H photo for $349.00. I took the camera/gimble from the crashed aircraft and installed it on the replacement one. I use the old RC from the crashed P3P and the case and now have two complete P3P packages.

Anyone know if State Farm offers this yet in California? or any other California companies?

You will need to check that out for yourself. I haven't lived in CA. in 40 years.

Not sure why many are surprised at the low cost for the insurance.  This is how the insurance industry works, otherwise, they wouldn't sell much insurance.  They make their money on volume.  Someone referenced a diamond ring at a low premium.  Same principle.   I have a Rolex and the yearly insurance is only about $110.  Same for the wife's.  

Just as an fyi, normal homeowner's insurance for jewelry and extras (like a drone) only cover up to $1,500 (in totality), unless you have a rider policy, like many are talking about.  Also, each piece of jewelry or speciality item has to be insured separately.  So, if you're wife has a diamond ring, diamond earrings, and some other nice piece, you need (3) riders (but can be put on one overall policy).  Each will have their own line item cost.

I  have state farm in Wisconsin $60 a year covers loss theft damage. The only thing it doesn't cover is liability that is covered thru homeowners. When I first called my agent they said they didn't cover drones I told them about how others have been covered. Long story short they looked into it and I now have insurance.

If you are a member of AMA you are covered anywhere you fly in the US.
It could be in your back yard or at an event.

I'm in the Orlando area and called one that's right by my house in Winter Park. I just went to the website and emailed a few agents in my area until one of them responded.

It is covered under a personal articles policy, for $1,800 worth of equipment.
Class or property: Cameras.

i talked to my agent and was asked if i was crazy.  here in OHIO.  iam with state auto.  will state farm insure you if you dont have other coverage with em?

I don't think you guys have got the AMA liability requirements right.   Only requirements that I have read indicate you must abide by AMA safety rules at all times.

I live in SW Florida. State Farm wrote me a no deductible, no exclusions policy, full replacement value under Personal Articles policy for $76 per year.

Liability is covered under my homeowners policy and AMA provides excess liability coverage to 2.5 million.  Recreational use only...NOT Commercial.

I had to send them my receipt, photos of the P4, and the serial number.

You said "can't beat that" lol, so my State Farm policy was just written for $55/year!  No deductible!

hahaha, just had to mention.  THANK YOU for this info, originally, as it is awesome coverage!

*One thing to note on the policy (WASHINGTON) is it does NOT cover "mechanical failure."  Whatever that means since a mechanical failure is going to result in a drop in the ocean, smash into a building, catch on fire, and all the other stuff!  So yea, it covers everything.

If you're flying over water, just tell them a bird of prey knocked it out of the sky.

Curious on this state farm policy.. did you have to take pictures to submit the claim.. anyone else use the claim process yet, how does it work?

here in sw PA for a mavic at $1000, they offer this for $35/year.. they say they cover "major" damage and disappearances.. but how do you report this and get the check if something happens.. what of "smaller" damage, like say an arm breaks off, motor busts etc?

I think the drone is covered on non damage? for the first year by DJI, so if electronics go you are covered.. i was still debating to buy the $99 care pack plan (which i think only goes out 1 year from date of purchase as is).. but would cover "minor" damage, unsure

My coverage is for replacement. I'm sure the claim process is different for each state. I did not have to supply pictures or any thing. They took me at my word.

Just got a quote for State Farm in Texas for m Mavic at  $30/ year.  I have no other policies with State Farm!

She said it covers, theft, loss, and damage! Happy Happy Happy. Anyone else in CFL or Florida - Rest assure - Go with State Farm!

Why wouldn't they? I pay $65.00 a year for my drone. Think of it this way say you have $100,000 house you pay less than a $1,000 a year to have that insured.

I;ve been looking for some form of UAV  insurance here in Ontario, Canada. So far, of the 9 companies I;ve called, all have said NO, but, 3 of them said they are looking at policies for UAV;s & will let me know.
Yesterday, I noticed a new State Farm office not far from me , going to give them a call today.
Anyone in Ontario, Canada, that has insurance or is looking, or has info on insuring do post here, eh.

Well if you think we are lying, why don't you check it out for yourself. I have had one replaced due to a bird strike.

Could you post a copy of your policy - minus your personal info? I was planning on contacting my local SF agent tomorrow and it would be useful to show an example policy and use the correct terminology - e.g. personal property insurance, rider?...

People often misrepresent the AMA cover, it is as you say, it does not require an 'event' or a specified AMA field.

As for the State Farm policy, if you can get it, enjoy it while it lasts, I'll be surprised if in 12 months time the rates have not gone up considerably, or like CA the other states will drop it completely.

Thanks for posting this. My neighbor is a state farm agent and he checked with the underwriter regarding personal property insurance. He called back and quoted $60/yr for 2 P3Ps.

Some details:

doesnt matter how many drones, its total value (in my case 2x$1200 purchase price = $2400)

$60 was the lowest available rate (for me) and the rate depends on the value. I didnt get the max insured value at the $60 level so I dont know what that would be

They need: verification under 55#, not business use, sales receipt or basis of valuation, list of components (include add ons) and serial #s
I dont have any other insurance with state farm and its a replacement policy - so current replacement value instead of purchase price

I have another insurance company insure the house and autos.

I have 2 P3P and 6 batteries now insured from State Farm in NJ. Total cost of insurance $76.00 per year covers both P3P. Zero deductable.

I am very close to receiving my mavic pro bundle and I just called state farm.

they said they can cover the whole bundle and would replace it if pretty much anything happened - water, accidental crash, if it gets stolen, etc. will prob cost me $60 for the year and there is no limit on how many times a year you can replace it (you obviously dont want to be replacing it often but you can deff replace it more than 2 times) and there is no deductible. This beats the DJI care refresh by a long shot!

I live in PA by the way

correct....$36 for the year!
