everything you said is correct and so was my post. The difference between True Air Speed (TAS) and Ground Speed (GS) is wind. If your craft is flying a TAS of 10 (pick any speed measurement; mph, kts, kph, fps...doesn't matter) and the wind speed in the direction of travel (off the nose) is 10 then the GS will be zero. Turn the craft 180 degrees so the wind is coming from behind the craft and the TAS of 10 affected by the wind speed off the tail of 10 will give a GS of 20. |
