I've taken mine as carry-on luggage in a case (I use a Lowepro DroneGuard CS 400).  The batteries must also be carried as hand luggage (see https://www.faa.gov/about/office ... s_and_batteries.pdf).  I put my batteries in LIPO safe bags inside the Lowepro case.

Nice...

The P4 batts are rated for 81.3 watt hours, not subject to airline prior approval.....

I discharge my batteries to 30%, either by flying or by switching on the drone (without the motors running). The later can take some time to discharge a battery.

What I do with my phantom 4 is put it in sports mode and just fly along side the plane.

You can discharge and use Lipo bags if you want to but the FAA and airlines don't ask for that and no-one at the airport will care.
Go to your airline's website and search for batteries to see their requirements.

I have carried on my Phantom 4 as a carry on and it fits perfectly. I honestly don't discharge or anything, just carry it as normal.

They don't blow up at home and so far haven't when flying as carry on either.

I personally wouldn't leave a battery inside the craft while travelling on a plane

So i will probably just discharge the battery to 30% and then keep the battery in my luggage with electrical tape on the part where it connects

The small drop in pressure will have zero effect on your batteries regardless of their state of charge.
You mentioned puttting them in your luggage - make sure they don't go in checked luggage.
All airlines require them to be in carry-on luggage.

Batteries mustn't go in hold in case of fire.  At least if they catch fire as carry on there is a chance of containing the fire.  See https://www.cinema5d.com/drone-b ... -australia-declare/ for an example of a fire caused by drone LIPO batteries.

I just returned from Aruba. I took my P3P as carry-on luggage. The DJI case contained a battery in the drone plus three extras. I did not discharge the batteries. The only scrutiny that the drone received was departing Miami International Airport at the beginning of our trip. The TSA agent asked that I open the case and he swabbed the batteries with the explosive detection cloth. Of course, the test proved negative and I was allowed to proceed without further comment.
