So far ... it's all good.   I had a couple of my Inspire 1 batteries do the update two times before it stuck. Not sure why, I was looking at the log file afterwards.

It is very interesting how many issues arise after the FW update is released. DJI is doing a good job keeping us up to date.

Make sure your device with the Go app on it has Internet  access .  I would set up my RC with the  I-pad  ( or whatever device you use  ) connected and turn it on in the are of the Wi-Fi  router, then open the Go app and it should  say "Firmware Update Available "  

Do not use the devices Cell Internet for the update if possible, use a fixed wi fi if possible.  It is just a more reliable signal with faster speed

Alan, make sure you update the RC as well.  Do NOT have the aircraft on during the update.

Thanks for that post Aeromirage. I was beginning to feel guilty that I have never had an update fail nor a problem with my I1 or controllers. Hope I don't regret saying that but enjoying flight for almost a year now.

I have the exact same issue.  I followed the directions to a T and the remote states "No signal" , the version on the About screen says 1.6.0, but the flight controller serial number is blank.  Yes, I upgraded the craft/camera successfully first, then the batteries, then the remote.

Hey rich thanks for the info.  I am at ver. 1.5 on the firmware ,  can I go directly to 1.8 or do I have to load everything in between any idea? Also is all of the expanded geo fencing that was introduced some where after I stopped upgrading still present?  If so I cannot upgrade as I will have to massive of restricted areas that make no sense in the middle of nowhere in the mountains here.  Dont want to have to sell my machine,

I live in the mountains too here in Oregon. So far I have not had any trouble with range or the map. I cannot answer your question regarding the update because I did not skip any.  Not sure if the new FW has all of the previous stuff included. Maybe DJI Tim and answer this?

     You are correct in the beginning you had to stay in order. " I "as the matter of fac, think you should stay in order.  In my Opinion it is much easier to roll back just  1 update that will cause a minimum amount of change to the  data already on the aircraft, especially when you are having difficulty.  I am not saying the day an update comes out you must do it,  let the dust settle a bit and see how it goes, I have noticed a pattern of updates with another shortly thereafter to "Fix" some of the unknown problems the update would cause.

Since update 1.3 you can jump but like you say " It can scramble some things " ( Not always) Also when folks tend to jump they have not done a FW update in a while and this causes it's own unique set of  problems.  So just to be clear , YOU CAN JUMP FW but at least be confident you know what you are doing and make sure it is far enough along ( 1.3) to do so.  

***I am a fan of staying in order...... at the time of release  or within a couple days .

Hi Rich,
I too upgraded the firmware in the wrong order and now I can't enter the travel mode. I tried rolling back the firmware on the RC to 1.5.8 and then uploaded the firmware 1.6.0 with the bird switched off. However when I rebooted and then powdered the bird then the RC, no change and the bird will not go into travel mode......
Is there something else that I'm not doing?{:3_58:}

Put in red and big font, MUST UPDATE AIRCRAFT FIRST, THEN RC CONTROLLER!!!

I had just posted this after trying to bring my Inspire 1 Pro back to life after the firmware update.

Click and hold for 10 seconds on the scholar hat icon on the GO APP main screen. You can the downgrade the controller firmware to prior version and reconnect to the inspire. Then upgrade the inspire via the bin file method. Now complete your controller installation.

unfortunately I do not have first hand experience with this problem. Did you try and connect with 1.5.8?  look below your post and see the link that talks about using the slave remote to recover the Inspire 1. If you have the slave controller you can set this one to the master and connect with the Inspire 1 to put the gear down.

Anyway, it did not sound like you did anything wrong downgrading...

HELP !!@ I updated my firmware last nignt all went well no issues. Today i flew and used folow me mode and after about 20 feet it stopped i had no control it then started flying backwards with out responding i click go home button and it came back no idea of my reliefe. I landed it and removed props camera and put in travel mode but the legs now close so tight i cant get it into case please help to scared to fly it now

If you're actually making money with your bird, then it's highly advisable not to upgrade upon first release of the new firmware if at all possible. Nothing worse than things going haywire while doing a job, or you're bird having problems even taking off.

I have the solution. I was assisted by a DJI Online Chat support Person.

Turn off AC before doing any of this.

1. Downgrade RC to 1.5.8 ( see other forum posts on this)
2. Turn on AC
3. Exit Travel Mode (!) Hooray
4. Turn off  AC
5. Format SD Card (check for DCIM files first)
6. Put 1.8.00 bin file on it
7. Insert SD Card into Camera
8. Turn on AC
9. Let it go until it goes DD-D-D - about 15 mins
10. Restart AC
11. Start RC
12. Upgrade RC to 1.6
13. Change Batteries to Update them individually, until they go DD-D-D ( about 3 minutes)
14. Format SD card after updating batteries.
15. You are welcome.

Has anyone yet successfully updated their Inspire 1 RAW X5R?

I accidentally updated the controller first and got the lost signal problem, but downgraded it again successfully. However, when I tried to update the aircraft, it simply did nothing. I let it sit there for half an hour or more and nothing. There are no indicator lights on the X5R camera that I can see, just the ones on the aircraft itself. This is the process I tried:

- Format SD card that came with the Inspire (also tried another SD card later) from the DJI Go app
- Turned controller off
- Copied .bin file to SD card and put it in the aircraft
- Powered aircraft on
- Usual startup beeps and fast flashing yellow aircraft lights (no GPS indoors)
- No other sounds or indicator lights.

Any ideas?

Ensure you navigate to inspire pro or pro/raw firmware page. Sounds like you have the basic inspire firmware.
