I think the reason you got weak HD video link at around 8000 feet (at 8:00 min) was that you did not keep your antennae perfectly vertical while the RC was resting on your lap.  In fact when you said you were starting to lose HD video link, the video of you showed the antenna at about a 40 degree angle from vertical. Note that as soon as you repositioned the RC and the antenna were near vertical once again, you were able to continue flying out to 9000+ feet when you turned around with full HD and RC video strength.  Take it from someone who flies long distances often - antenna position becomes more and more critical the farther out the bird is.  I have flown 20,000 feet out multiple times in a rural area similar to where you filmed this video.  To reach such distances you will need to turn obstacle avoidance OFF, which will increase your P4's max horizontal speed to 37 mph.

Good test, I stated earlier I achieved with both P3P and P4 distance of 14000 ft presented in my v ...

I fly both of them in my neighborhood all the time. P4 consistently gets better range in this area. Not sure why you guys are having trouble, but I have never had that issue.

13,335 feet (2.52 miles) before I started getting weak transmission signal, but that was my 3rd day of having the P4 and the only test i've done. I might just be repeating here but it is RECOMMENDED BY DJI to PUSH THROUGH when your range starts to get weak, and it will reconnect up again in 5-10 seconds (with perfect connection). I have personally not tested this yet, as I'm not typically filming things over 2 miles away, but it has been confirmed by DJI. I hadn't seen it mentioned in here yet so I thought I would. Everybody try that next time you go do a range test (Just make sure your RC Connection Lost is set to Smart RTH, just in case). I'll be testing later today and will report back, if it's true, I should be able to hit the 3.1 mile range it promised (all stock). Flying in Raleigh, NC from a mountainous landfill (above all trees/power lines/everything in sight, but still in the city).

**On another note, everybody make sure their antennas are positioned properly to get maximum range** This seems to be a huge problem, the lack of knowledge in how the P4 antennas are supposed to be set. There are tutorial videos by DJI about this issue. Thank you david.p.mann for bringing this up.

How far do you fly in the city ? what range do you have in mind ? just curious, see I am not the o ...

In my neighborhood I get about 3,000 feet with the P3. My P4 gets about 4,200 feet. I use the P4 to get sunset pics out by the water tower and the P3 cannot even get close to it. I know you don't know how far the water tower is, but just know the P4 can reach it, the P3 does. Heavy wifi and cellular traffic in the area.

2008.1m with full signal feed, casually flight, never tried to push to its limit.

Something improved after that last firmware update. I've noticed vastly superior range and live feed quality. I managed 2.4 kilometers today in my CE version. And like always, no windsurfers, nothing. Stock

I can't get more than 390m until mine goes out....

I barely get 3,000 feet here in my hometown Dallas, TX, but I managed to get to 26,000 feet on a calm, central Louisiana night.

2.5 km over flat country.   Last P4 firmware : 1.1.301.

P3 pro's radio uses 20% more electricity meaning there is a 20% increase basically

Also it has been tested, p4 only achieves a 2 minute battery life increase so it is 10% but having a 20% decrease in range just made me pass on it although it's newer features would have been nice

For some reason I can't get over 1800 feet,  (580 meters).  I maintain control of the craft, but I lose my video.

I've played with the antenna positions, and the orientation of my controller in respect to the craft, but nothing seems to help.

This is over wide open flat country, (hayfields, pastureland etc).

16,215' stock !!Love the P4, she's not perfect but I love the P4 !!

I was having distance issues over the wide open prairie.  I'd start getting video freezes and breakups at around 2500 feet.   On a suggestion I got on this forum, I changed my Image Transmission Settings from Auto to Custom and locked it to a channel that didn't have have any interference. (In my case, it was channel 20).

I can get a lot further now.  Yesterday I managed 8200 feet (2.5 Km).  This is plenty for me because I don't have the courage to go much more than that

That's what I got with the P4 and P3A, before installing an ITELITE antenna.  Now I get 10,000 ft.

Isn't this like comparing apples and oranges. If your flying out on the desert where it would be line-of-sight it would most likely be considerably farther than in an area where there were trees and buildings. Also the altitude would be important to know since it may clear obstacles and give you line of sight in an otherwise congested area. There are a number of other things that have to be taken into consideration.

Last weekend I got 2500m with p4 in flat area without heavy wifi interferences - phantom dont lost signal, so in this weekend I try fly one more time maybe I get more distance. I fly in Europe so phantom is in CE mode

I have gone 3 miles with a stock P4 and antennae but I live in an open area.  Video was going bad but was only down 1 bar on the remote but I was worried about battery life.  Ended up I got back with 35%.

Yesterday my record (actually phantom record) is 3186m in open area on stock antenna. I need print antenna booster and we will see. I have newest firmware for phantom and rc. My phantom is in CE mode, so I am close to DJI specification 3.2km in Europe.

... and my height was 130m.

5600ft one way. With stock antennA

4,0 Km with stock P4 using only Windsurfer... latest firmware. I fly in Spain, Europe so phantom is in CE mode.
