My Phantom 4 is ordered and on its way.

I went to purchase a new android tablet but when i got there the 10.1" looked really big.

Obviously i want the biggest size for a better viewing but what size would you recommend for the Phantom 4 controller?

It depends.

I have an older Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet.  It's a little bit too big to fit in the holder.  The problem is that the bezel is quite large.   I don't know if the newer Android tablets have smaller bezels.   If they do, then there's a chance that one may fit.

For what it's worth, you have to make sure the maximum height of the device doesn't exceed 169 mm or 6 5/8 inches.

I use an iPad Air..   I love the big screen

I have an 8 and a 7 and both have plenty of screen size.
I think the 8 is too big and clumsy.
7 inch is the sweet spot for me.

There are a number of 3-D printed plastic extenders you can purchase from various eBay vendors for the Phantom 3/4 mobile device holder that will allow you to use a 10.1" tablet.  You should also purchase a sun hood for your tablet/holder and an aluminum parabolic reflector for your RC antenna while you are shopping on eBay.

I have a 7" tablet.  I haven't ordered one yet but I'm going to check and see if the 8" one would work.  http://www.hoodivision.com/

7" hits the spot for me as well!  10" way to big and hard to handle!  I'm sure though with time, I'd get used to its size.

I've only got 4 inches, sometimes it's hard to see, especially when it's cold. My wife tells me that it's not the size of your screen but the width of your pixels that matter...

I use my Samsung S5 smartphone but want to get a 7-8" tablet..  Does the tablet need Internet access to fly the Phantom?

No internet access needed when you are flying.
Most tablet users fly with wifi only tablets.

I got the official DJI hood here. Remote Controller Monitor Hood for Tablet (#57).   Part 57 should be available from the DJI store.   Part 56 is for smaller smartphones.  Infinitely better than the cheap clones out there.  http://store.dji.com/search?q=monitor+hood  There is no hood for the large 10" tablets.

A medium screen like 7"/iPad mini is ideal.  Any bigger and the support arm tends to flex with the weight.  You could upgrade to the Inspire aluminium arm if you can find them, I can't.

I was using an iPad Mini 2 and upgraded to an iPad Air2. Bigger is much better (in this case).

If it would fit I'd be using my iPad Pro!  As it is I'm using my iPhone 6S Plus, and will be borrowing the Mrs iPad Air 2 when she gets it (yes, I have permission, I checked :p)

10 inches is just average,  I have 12 inches, it fits snugly in its holder but you need an adapter.

The nest tablet out there in my opinion is the iPad Mini 4. A phone is to small and an iPad is to big. The Mini 4 is a perfect fit.

I use iPad Mini 4 wifi-cellular version. I dont need a bigger screen.
When I have an important video or photo job to do this is the sunshade hood I use. This hood is fantastic and I can see how I want my picture frame to be at 100% precision. I can use it on the tablet holder or on a tripod. I prefer tripod.
Dont spend money for the DJI sunshade.

Its only an 8" screen but fantastic resolution and processing power for only £150

Soon you wont even need a tablet, just an Apple watch...

Not at all, I'm no using an iPad pro 9.7 and love the large screen after realizing my iPhone 6 was way to small

I'm using Xperia Z4 Tablet - 10.1" and don't need an adaptor to use it with the RC.

Bigger screen the better and 2k res is handy for viewing directly from the SD card out in the field.

I can do that now with my Parrot Bebop on my iPhone 6. You can control it with the turn of your phone on your hand.

This is good to know .. I have a P3S which I just purchase the Inspire 1 mobile device holder (with aluminum base) .. so I know I need to drill a hole in my RC with a 7/32 drill bit .. but the fact that I currently have a Samsung Galaxy tab S2 (9.7") .. I was hoping I could use this with out needing any additional extensions.

Just be careful doing any modifications to the RC. It voids the warranty, and if you break something you'll need to purchase another RC.

Samsung Tab S2 9.7 wifi, great fit not heavy, great screen, tad expensive for just drone but a great tablet.

I have iPad Pro 9.7 and also the galaxy tab s2 9.7 and let me tell u that the iPad Pro runs DJI go so much smoother then the Galaxy s2.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8 inch. At first I was very unhappy with the screen. I added the DJI hood for larger tablets. That helped, but was considering purchasing the hood man. But I finally figured out, the tablet screen brightness was set to auto which was too dim. Once auto was unchecked and brightness set to highest, viewing DJI GO app is perfect.

When funds become available, will probably purchase tablet with 4G. This is so maps will always be  available.
