Anyone have the OG Inspire 1 with the X5R?

Has anyone bought just the X5R camera and iso board for their original Inspire 1 V1 and swapped out the camera? I'm having trouble finding a buyer at $1800 and just considering buying the camera, iso board and LG extensions for clearance.

I've heard the only drawbacks are that with the added payload, it wont fly as fast.

Is there anything else?

Said many times elsewhere, no problems. Besides greater inertia (which makes for steadier flights), flight time is reduced. TB 47 ( a used one) gets one 10 mins tops and a TB 48 will get you around 13 mins +.  If you fly gently, the difference between V1 and V2 is functionally a non-issue.

Add a set of 1345T QR prop mounts. $8 set of 2. You'll be glad you did.

I need the quick release props as well.

Is the 2nd operator a must on the X5/X5R or can single operator still capture quality footage like I can on my X3?

The V1 will have more inertia?

From a physics point, no because the mass of the aircraft + gimbal complex is identical in v1 and v2 but as the ESC's in V2 have a greater capacity to handle current, responsiveness will be a little different.

Like I said, if you are not racing and looking for smooth moves for photo / video work, there is not any difference. The demo video that Ian Cresswell shot on the X5 Raw was shot using a v1 system.

Correct. These are the ones. For 'high altitude' flying, there is a new set of high pitch props (1360) that can be purchased too.

Depends on how complex your flight manoeuvres are and how much twisting and turning you do. This group uses a single operator rig on an X3 but their results are pretty good. Like with most things in life, having a better system in place can theoretically give better results all other  things being equal but skill makes up for a lot

I have bought the X5 for my V1 - and the increased weight on the X5 R would not play a big role. When I was swapping my my X3 for X5  - I did it because I have a very very stable Inspire 1 V1. I have had practically no issues - so why swap the aircraft I trust ? It is a very little difference between V1 and V2.

Go for it

Good to hear, as I plan to make the move to the X5 soon. I've made the switch with new 1345T prop kit, next would be the gimbal plate. My I1 v1 d model only has 20 flights, so I'm happy to hear with the heavier cameras, it can still fly well; with the added weight.

Thanks Mike. You helped me make up my mind. I rarely have a friend or other person that knows camera movements around anyways. For most basic camera movements beyond what my fingers can handle I use the iPad and finger method to handle pan and tilts.

I sold a V1 on ebay recently. I included a case for free since the mold was useless for me. I had bids same day. i suggest that route.

Also, I am a single operator with an X5--works great.

To be honest, DJI Ken told me that the new V2 would be like a new car and noticeable more power. I have only flown my new V2 one time and cannot report any real difference between the V1 and V2. I am only using the X3 camera, so it is not working very hard at all.

this was copied from a thread with DJI Dave. maybe this can help you

Yeah, I think using the X5R with the TB47 is pushing the limits on the original Inspire1 and TB47. I get power warnings and battery dropping into red when flying. Flight time with the TB47: I get about 10-11 min flights down to 30% first low power warring.   I would recommend using the Inspire Pro if flying the X5R. The Inspire1 is fine and capable of doing the job (I have about 70 flights on it, most all of those over the Pacific Ocean)  I just think the Pro would be better. Also several of the other testers are flying the X5R with the Inspire1, with many flight hours logged.
I do need to get a couple of TB 48 packs that should help some.

Dave

Sorry, I disagree with Ken and he has a conflict of interest.

I have all the combinations of hardware and have tested under different conditions.

mtc,

I understand what you are saying, and so far Ken has always been a straight shooter with me. I do not have the X5 camera so I cannot speak to  this point. I know that DJI wants to sell us new stuff all the time...  so with that said, I like what I own and do not have any problems to date.

I wish they would come out with a new battery option for the Inspire 1 that will increase the flight time. Maybe it will need to be one of the new battery chemistry's that will be coming out soon... I hate to have them offer a new larger battery pack that is not backwards compatible with the Inspire 1 that we have.  I have this feeling they are waiting until they release the Inspire 2 with a completely new battery option that will leave us out in the cold.  (have to buy the new version again)

DJI is pretty much top of the class in its use of materials and tech so I don't think we are going to get more flight time with the current configuration. When hydrogen cells become a reality, things would change radically. All said and done, for a 'pro' rig, the Inspire Raw with TB48's gets more time than say a fully loaded S1000 or something like that - 13 -14 mins of usable flight time.

Yes, you may push a little harder with a V2 but in the end, you pay in terms of flight time. There is a reason why DJI sets its RTH flight speed at 10m/s - they figure its the best trade off in speed vs. endurance.
