I have windows 10 and movie maker is on mine. I upgraded from windows 8 so maybe on new computers with 10 it doesn't come with it.

Could well be the case.  I shall enquire of my friendly IT man,  it may be possible to still download it onto Windows10 ?  
How does it stack up,  any good ?

I have a Mac and so I'm trying to edit using Final Cut Pro 7. I'm getting this error - Failed: 3x crash service down,  when trying to compress files from 4K to Apple Pro Res Light using compressor. I've researched for a fix but found nothing. Amy ideas?

Just a question, why are you converting to pro res? Is it before starting editing in FCPX? Or to create a finalized movie. I just import the .mov files from my drone (mavic pro btw) and have 'create proxy files' selected in FCPX for smoother editing of 4K files on my 10 years old mac. When sending to compressor the original 4K is used. Slow processing  but works for me.

Sorry that is not correct, advanced software can calculate and insert new frames from the difference between the recorded frames to make slowmo looking more smooth and less jumpy.
Even it never will be the same as if it was recorded, ex. DaVinci Resolve makes a pleasant job this way but it add up on the rendering time.

That is still duplicating frames, and while yes I agree it does do a good job with most slow motion video, if you slow a clip down to like 5 or 10% of its original speed, you will be able to notice. My point was slow motion that truly uses no type of frame duplication is achieved by shooting at a higher frame rate.

I normally use Adobe Premiere CC but the few times I have used Movie Maker it seemed decent for a free program.
