DJI have said elsewhere in another thread that it can not be used with the X5, but the reply seemed a little unsure to me.

"Hi,
As far as I know, it's not compatible with X5. The X5 need to be mounted on the Adaptor to work on the Osmo handle, well the connector of the Adaptor is not compatible with X3 connector."

no it's not as the 4-axis is sprung exactly for the weight of the X3 and the X5 weighs considerably more

In the video: Is it a second X5 adaptor on the Z-Axis? Or has the Z-Axis his own X5 platform on top?

Thanks for the video!
I even didn't know it works on X5 adaptor and the X5. Sorry about that.
I will confirm that with our staff further.
Since the new Osmo firmware, which will add the compatibility with the X5 adaptor and other new features, hasn't been released, for any confirmed information, please refer to our further publishment.

+Minwoo Park Got the answer. The Zenmuse X5 adapter for the Z-Axis is notyet available. The Z-Axis right now just supports the Zenmuse X3.

which means OH GOD we gotta wait on another adapter!

Hello! Everyone,
Thanks for your concern about the Osmo Z-Axis and thanks for your patience!
I'm here to confirm with you that the Osmo Z-Axis (http://store.dji.com/product/osmo-z-axis?from=menu_products) is not compatible with X5/X5R camera, it's only for X3 camera.
As for any further information, we'll share more with you later.

There's no reason why it shouldn't work as long as you have the x5 adapter.

There's no reason why it shouldn't work as long as you have the x5 adapter.

The Osmo Z-Axis is purely a mechanical stabilization kit which is specifically designed for X3 camera.
Due to the overweight of X5 camera with the adaptor, it's not recommended to mount the X5 camera on the Osmo Z-Axis.

As for any further accessories for X5 or X5R, our engineers will consider it seriously and please pay more attention to our official website for any update.
Thanks for your consideration and understanding!

The steadicam (tm)  works with a range of cameras , the varying weights controlled by spring tension adjustment . If the latent spring tension was changed and the tensioner calibrated surely it could cope with the different x3/x5 weight range  in the same way?

I guess you're right!
Presently, the Osmo Z-Axis is specially designed for X3 camera. So, we would recommend using it with the X5 camera.
I think our engineers will take serious consideration on this issue and maybe more accessories will be made for further requirement or so.
Thanks for your opinion!
Any more suggestions will be appreciated!

I will have the z-axis and 2 x5 adapters along with my x5 camera and osmo handle I will let everyone know how well the z-axis and the x5 camera work together on May 18th 2016. I also have the black market aluminum adapter, I will see if that can be used with this setup as well

I modified my origional z axis for the x5r until the official one comes out. It involved grinding away the locking ring that locks the arm onto the camera because the ring is too wide hits the gimbal housing as it is meaning the gimbal wont lock into the arm. This is not an issue on the X5, only X5R.I used three additional springs from a common 150 peice spring kit you can buy anywhere online. These were in addition to the origional spring. There are two springs on the outside and one spring i threaded through the origional spring inside the arm. I think you can just about see this on one of the photos.
The tensioning wheel can then work as normal. It works great. quick video of it .

It would be nice if DJI would state that this is NOT compatible with iPhone 7.  Their 'suggestion' for a fix:  I should buy an Android phone.  And of course, they will NOT take it back.

Not directly using the original Z-axis because it's balanced for the X3 and the X5 is a heavier camera. There's a neat and cheap alternative here
