I had occasional gimbal level issues with my P3P, but have never seen a problem with my P4.

I noticed that in sport mode, you can make a fast tight turn that is too much for the gimbal to handle and it will be sideways momentarily, and it recovers quickly, but I think that is normal behavior and to be expected in sport mode.

thanks !, what about flying in a slight wind ? any problems or does it stay leveled ?

I haven't really noticed anything, but maybe I haven't been in any significant winds.

You can try to calibrate the IMU and gimbal before next flight

My P4 exhibits the same gimbal topple that you describe. It's almost always following the aircraft rotating on the yaw axis. Sometimes it self corrects, others not. It is usually around 3 degrees and can be corrected using the gimbal roll facility in the DJI Go app. However, that is only a guess and uses the image shown on the tablet... with its inherent shortfalls. I have calibrated both the IMUs and the gimbal several times now. Interestingly,  I also operate a P2, S800, S800 Evo and S900, all with Zenmuse gimbals and none of them have ever shown a tendency to topple like the P4. I do hope DJI can find a software fix, because it is a very inconvenient problem.

So it seems that P4 is also suffering from this. I have my P3 since mid Jan this year, and I looked at my first couple of flights, no problems. Then since the update after then it went bad too. I did all I could (sourced this forum and youtube) and still does it. I turned off gimbal synch (helped a bit) but still it is not perfect but ok!

Highly, recommend a very cold IMU calibration (I left mine in the fridge 20mnts) then compass and then auto gimbal. It got better but still not perfect. Fingers crossed DJI is going to fix this. Yaw and camera tilt causes this problem. It corrects itself eventually but Yaw is a no go zone. :/

If the gimbal goes off of level while turning it's because of how you are flying.  Turning requires a matched input of Yaw and Roll.  If they are not right, a slip or skid turn results, which makes the gimbal tilt.
I've requested a turn indicator many a time to DJI so far no luck. (the part needed is the tube with the black ball in it)  Keep the ball in the center while turning and the gimbal will stay horizontal.

This makes sense to me but this is unfortunate that we can not have fluid camera response when panning with slide of the quad so its smooth.
So we basically have to fly stop pan then fly stop and pan wow that really sucks.....

Not really, it just takes practice, I can fly a complete 360° circle and keep the horizon level.
To learn fly in a circle with the camera tilted down putting the horizon near the top of the frame.  If the horizon tilts move the YAW stick left or right to see if the horizon levels again.  Eventually you will develop a feel for how much stick input is needed.  Its also helpful to look at the map window at the red triangle, The center-line of the triangle must be tangent to the flight path line.  If its pointing left or right opposite Yaw input is required to correct it.

I wonder how you would correct this:-

http://forum.dji.com/thread-51315-1-1.html

Those images are severely tilted and maybe something is wrong with the gimbal.  To test it power up the system (no props on the phantom)  Check to see if the camera is level, if yes start recording, pick up the phantom and roll it back and forth.  If the gimbal is OK the video should remain horizontal.  If it tilts the gimbal needs tuning and most likely will have to be sent to DJI.

I'm fed up with recalibrating every time I use it and thinking its reset to level only to see my video footage with uphill horizons.

If DJI don't sort this soon then I will be returning for a refund.  I cant believe the lack of response to what is obviously a major problem.

All this bad publicity cant be doing DJI any good.

Come on DJI, burying your head in the sand and hoping it goes away is not helpful to anyone.
