I haven't checked my SD card yet, but I think it might save a smaller, compressed version of the video on the SD card (not RAW).

Yes, the X5R writes proxy video files to the SD Card so that you can check your shots more easily without having to transfer footage immediately with  Cinelight.

The Video's on the SD are principly what you also get out of the X5 - The RAW files are stored on the ssd...
