Looking to buy real soon, wondering everyone's thoughts on the 2.

As I understand their literature, 3DR have virtually given up on producing consumer level drones.

I'm sure the answer on the DJI forum won't be the Phantom.

And if all that  isn't enough .... TThe Phantom has Lightbridge while the Solo uses crappy old wifi.
Lightbridge trumps everything else.

All true.

However, it's still like going to a Camaro forum asking which car is better, Camaro or Mustang. Owners of anything tend to be very subjective.

Just curious on the 4, I had the Iris+ but sold it and waiting to buy the 4. Should I shell out the extra and get the 4 or stick with the 3 pro.

If you don't need the extra features of the p4,, the p3p is a great quad

Though I've had issues, I really like the P4, but here's a simple breakdown:

Do you want or need:

also forgot long range, not being nerved by geo fences,   
having an all in one product.   not having to make 3 different purchases to get a pfv drone that only flies for 1/2 the time and half the speed/
other than that pretty much nailed it  

IMO the Solo is a dead horse.. for the love of all that is holy, don't put money on the Solo.. Get a P4 or P3, hell even get a Typhoon H when it finally ships but don't go for the Solo..

Solo is dead in the water it seems. How long until they stop updating it all together? DJI all the way

Phantom 4 all the way. The P4 is all top shelf and a dream to fly. Very responsive. The collision avoidance is a great aid as well. Also grab a set of the P4 Prop guards they are very slick and simple to install and remove.

I'll prolly be ordering a P4 this afternoon, been wanting one very badly. I'm hoping I will fly this a lot more than I used to fly the Iris. Several people in our town know I love to fly and always ask about it when they see me. Supposed to be taking pics at a motor cross track here in late May. Also have a farmer who thinks I should get some more pics with him and his sprayer in the field. My only concerns are the gimbal tilt I hear so many people talk about and the connectivity issues, since I will be using my iPhone 6 for starters.

In my arsenel of drones i have a Phantom 2 Vision plus and a Phantom 4 and used to have a Inspire1 but recently sold it and the 3DR Solo.
What i can say about the solo is that i have yet to have any problems with it, it does exactly what it claims and no it does not have the range of battery life the P4 does but overall it works extremely well.
Hands down the P4 is far superior and i prefer it over the solo but i had to try one anyways with no regret on either....

The 3DR Solo looks better IMO because its black and the design seems sleeker. Their RC looks nicer too IMO. But performance wise, I heard the Solo is not up to par. Ultimately its a camera rig, and performance matters. Oh and it also costs a lot more. You also need to factor in buying an extra gopro to go with it. Meh. Deal breaker all around. So I went with the phantom.

What did put a pause on the phantom for me, was how waypoints worked where you had to fly to location first. But I realized you can make up for it by buying Litchi. So I let it slide and factored Litchi into the cost of acquisition. Otherwise, even the phantom's short comings would have been a deal breaker.

3dr solo has already given up on consumer drones and are only concentrating on commercial drones!!
Over priced, GPS and satellite issues, gimbal issues, range, releasing out without even having the gimbal ready for shipping, and a few other issues, I believe killed their market and future in consumer market

I give 3DR  and their Solo my all, it was my first drone, DJI makes way better drones but Yuneec makes way better drones then 3DR just look at the Q500 and Typhoon H. So why not DJI or Yuneec?

What I use a quad for needs range and nothing comes close to dji phantom in that price range, but yuneec is also a very good quad, just not for my use

If you want to get off on a good footing, then may I offer two pieces of advice?

One, don't use your iPhone 6, get an iPad Mini 2 or later, you won't regret it. Even an Air 2.

Two, when you get the aircraft, don't update it, fly it for several weeks until you know it is working properly.

Whilst I agree with geebax regarding iPad as device, only because it is bigger, I have to say that I don't have or ever have had any issues with my 6+, BUT, I have a p3p!!!

What do you mean by this? The P4 has geofencing built in to the software..

The majority of the time (except when you happen to buy one that has completely updated FW, which I'm seeing isn't that often) you cannot fly until you register/update your FW. I was unable to fly until updating. So why this piece of advice?

You can fly without updating.
The app will advise that an update is available but you do not have to take it.

ment to say nerfed.   3rd has major range limitations across the board.   hard limits that are very restrictive
