Can any one tell me what DJI recommends what brand and max capacity of the mirco SD card to be installed in the P4 itself.  I have the origanal installed but was looking for a higher capacity, unless DJI says No Bueno.... Thanks in advance

Any UHS-3 card, don't go for less or you could have writting issues while recording on 4k or 1080p60fps

I think the manual said 64GB was the highest capacity, but it also has to be a high speed card to get 4K video.

What's with the bigger must be better idea?
For a flying camera, bigger isn't better.
A 64GB card would hold about 20 full batteries of 4K video,
The idea of having such a big card and keeping a whole day's (or week's) flying on the card in the drone is just stupid.
There's no point sending precious images up again and again, risking them every flight.
Several 16 GB cards that you can swap out between flights makes a lot more sense.

The Sandisk Ultra will be a borderline case when shooting 4K, it is not quite fast enough. And the Phantom does not use ExFAT, so there is no point in doing it. Best to format the card in the aircraft so it can create all the directories it needs.

Interesting point, maybe the P4 uses ExFAT, but the P3 only uses FAT32.

I have the 16 GB Kingston UHS-I Speed Class 3  and on the card there is a small circle with the number 10 inside plus there is the U-shape symbol with a 3 inside. This card is rated as 90 MB/s read and 45 MB/s write. I thought this card had better specifications than the Phantom 4 needs but the DJI Go app shows the message "Slow SD" on the screen. Am I confused or are there any suggestions?

Are you sure you got that specification correct? Because there is a difference of 8 times between MB/s and Mb/s. A lower class 'b' means bits, whereas an uppercase 'B' means Bytes. A card that is 45 MB/s equates to 360 Mb/s, and I don't think there are many cards out there that can write at that speed.

The Phantom series can use cards of different speeds depending upon the capability of the camera. A P3 Standard can get away with a slowish card, but the P3 Advanced, Pro or P4 need a fast card to record 4K video. They need a card with a write speed better than 60 Megabits per second (Mb/s) otherwise they will trigger that warning.

Yes, that is correct. And it is pointless formatting it to exFAT beforehand, because the camera does not use the extended functionality of the exFAT formatting, so it is a waste of your time. It is always best to format in the camera itself, because it knows what format it wants to use, and it can also set up the directories and hidden files it requires.

Thanks for the response but the Kinston cards are capital "B" and I understand bits versus bytes.  You can go to http://www.kingston.com/us/flash/microsd_cards and see the specifications. Since this micro SD card has a write speed of 45 MB/s or 360 Mb/s I don't understand why I get the "slow SD" message in the DJI Go app.

Actually I wonder if the Phantom 4 has supports the UHS-I interface. I need to find out the difference between UHS and UHS-I interfaces. Below is the information copied from the Kingston site.
UHS (Ultra High Speed) uses minimum write speeds to differentiate the cards; UHS-I Speed Class 1 has a minimum write speed of 10MB/s while UHS-I Speed Class 3 has a minimum write speed of 30MB/s.

I think that message is unique to the P4, if you put a slow card in the P3 it simply rejects it saying 'Invalid SD Card'.

I only use Sandisk Extreme Pro cards, and they work every time, can't say with Kingston. I have had really bad experiences with Kingston memory and SSDs in the past, so I don't touch them any more.

Thanks, Geebax. I've had good experience with Kingston and it is certainly a reputable company. I think there is some reason for the message other than the cards are not good. In fact I have 3 and they all give the same message. Also I am formatting them in the Phantom 4. I hope someone has a better answer or guess.

The Absolute "FASTEST" Micro SD card you can use in the Phantom 4 is the 64GB SanDisk Extreme Pro.  There is no other card that comes close to its write speed in Micro SD.  If you want the fastest, this is it...90mb/sec write speed.

I ordered a UHS-II from Sandisk and it won't be delivered until mid June....supposedly there was a clip I read on Sandisk's website with someone from DJI making a statement in the section where Sandisk talked about how they're making this card to support cameras that record/photograph in extreme HD, so I'm hoping that it will work with the Phantom...the UHS-II has a write speed of 100MB/s and a read speed of 275Mb/s...and the way you can tell how it differs from the UHS-I is the pins on the back:

And your expensive super card will still record as slowly as the one that came with the Phantom because a faster card won't make the Phantom camera write any faster.

"I don't know why someone would choose 16gb other than to save a few bucks. "

I'm the opposite.
I can't imagine why so many people want to get the biggest card they can.
If you wanted to record a whole flight in 4K video, that would use up about 8-10GB - much less than the space on a 16GB card.
You could probably fit a whole week's shooting on a 64 GP card but that would be crazy.
Unless you just fly in the backyard, every time you launch your Phantom, there is a risk you won't be seeing it again.
It's much better to swap cards every flight and put those precious images in the bank rather than sending them out again and again.
I don't use 16GB cards to save a few bucks.
I have 6 of them and use multiple cards to save precious images.
