Guys, I need a little help.   My last update was firmware 1.5, however, I believe it is time for me to take the plunge to 1.8.  Question:  can I go directly from 1.5 to 1.8, or do I have upgrade to 1.7 first?  I have been out of the loop for sometime now, so could some direct me, please?

You should be OK to go straight up to 1.8, I believe each release contains all the files needed for each of the modules. Just remember to run it again with each of your spare batteries inserted (there was a battery firmware update in 1.6 ).

I looked at the firmware notes, and I found in the video it mentioned that we should connect the Phantom via sub cable to our computers like in the old days with the P2 series.  Do we actually have to do that to load the 8.1 firmware onto the sd card?

I went straight from 1.5 to 1.8 with zero issues, it was slick easy.  Just remember to also upgrade your RC, and be sure to do that AFTER you upgrade the ac

No, transfer the .bin file only onto the SD card, just make sure that it is not sitting in a folder at all. Insert sd card into P3 and power up, walk away and have a coffee for half an hour and all should be completed. Watch the LED above the camera on the gimbal, flashing red/green means it's updating. Solid green is finished and aircraft can be rebooted. SD needs to be formatted in FAT32 (EXFAT might work but FAT doesn't, so I've heard).

i dont get what u mean by upgrading firmware for intelligent battery ... i have 3 spare battery... does that means i have to update 3 times with the following steps

1.) download firmware to micro sd card
2.) insert into p3p
3.) insert battery
4.) switched it on
5.) upgrade automatically
6.) upgrade complete
7.) remove battery
8.) insert second battery
9.) switch on second battery

for step 10, is it going to upgrade again ??? and if it does do i have to repeat the step for all the spare battery i have ?

Thanks

Once the aircraft has finished updating, power down aircraft, leave the sd card in aircraft. Remove battery from aircraft, insert 1st spare battery then power up aircraft, it will then upgrade firmware on that battery (1st spare). Once finished updating (10 mins maybe ?) then repeat process for each spare battery.

So I should have said 'Yes' (I just read detail of your reply)

But the battery update is fairly quick. All the other modules are already up to date.
