When i choose the imperial setting for my flight measurement ,the dji go appt remains in metric format. Is there a way to show the measurement in feet?

You have to change the setting while the Phantom is connected.

The phantom is on but the measurement symbol is M not feet. Is this normal?

Mess around with a bit and you'll figure it out.
RTH height will always be in metres but it is possible to get the flight data to show in either metric or imperial units.

Hello Rob, what is your app version? Do all measurement symbol(including the speed, distance, height etc.) doesn't change after you select Imperial?
