Question about FAA laws. Altitude.

I'm asking this because of some confusion in a facebook drone group that I am apart of.

My understanding is that there is no height limit according to actual punishable laws by the FAA. It says that you are strongly encouraged to stay below 400 feet but that's all it is.

There are laws for flying near airports, over people, flying dangerously, ect but there doesn't seem to be any actual law about height.



Please correct me if I'm incorrect. I'm posting here because I wanted to be sure and that it wasn't just my skewed interpretation.

You will get a range of answers asking on the forum and quite a few will not be correct.
It might be better for you to go to the source and ask the FAA.

Wading through the FAA website looking for information about UAS for recreational use will net you a lot of stuff.  It does not say specifically that exceeding 400 feet is against the law,  but it does say you must follow community guidelines.  I don't know what that actually means,  but here is a place to start:
