I spent most of the afternoon/evening yesterday on the phone with US support after receiving my X5 camera in the mail earlier in the day.

I called US support last week when I ordered the camera, just to make sure I had all of the steps right for updating, to make sure I didn't make any mistakes.

I started at firmware 1.2 and updated craft, remotes and batteries to 1.3. From 1.3 I went to 1.8 (which is what the original DJI support person told me to do). However, after a few phone calls in distress, I was told to downgrade to I1Pro firmware 1.4 in order for the camera to catch up before going to the I1Pro 1.8 formware.

I followed the steps exactly and did everything that US support told me to do/try while on the many calls yesterday, and I simply can not get this thing to work. US support told me that they would send me an email before they leave for the weekend, which obviously did not happen.

The X3 camera works perfectly fine but the X5 camera has been and continues to remain disconnected with no image transmission signal. I can move it normally, take pictures normally etc, but I have a black screen with no image transmission message and all attempts at upgrading/downgrading firmware through the camera do what you see in the video below.

Saying that I am beyond disappointed with DJI once again would be a huge understatement!

I'm sorry you are experiencing difficulties.
Can you re-attempt 1.8.1.00 from the Inspire Pro download.
After your attempt, install the SD card into your computer and read the hidden log files and post them.

I had this same problem. After many hours of trying different things with various tech support guys, I finally got one that really seem to know his stuff. Ultimately, what ended up working for me was to update everything with the original X3 camera on the Inspire. It looks like you are actually getting a log file and I wasn't even getting that! So if you have the X3 camera, you might give that a whirl.

I am interested in finding out what line items 8 and 15 are, as they were apparently not detected in any of the firmware attempts.

It's funny, I have never one time had a failed firmware update on a DJI anything. You hear about them a lot and assume people just don't take the time to learn or do it right, but I am really stuck here.

I appreciate your input and will certainly share what the solution was if/when I/DJI solve this puzzle.

#8 is "Air Encoder" in the Camera.
# 15 is "Air End USB transmit" in Aircraft

I hate to tell you this but the X5 camera has the "video output module" corrupted, the camera Must be sent in for service .  When you updated the aircraft did you happen to have the Transmitter on at the same time ?   That will cause this, I have seen this On a few X5 cameras as of late. ( 0800 and 1500 Device not detected )  

Just get a RMA number and tell then you have a Device not detected on lines 0800 and 1500 and they will know what to do.  More than likely you only need to send the X5 camera in for repair.

This can not be fixed by rolling back or re- loading the FW , this I am sure of.  Just get a RMA number and send it in.  I hear the turnaround time is about a week to ten days.

Thanks Donnie - I absolutely did not ever have the remote on while updating the craft, I know better than that. I have been getting errors on items 0800 and 1500 since the first time I tried updating it. I suppose that means it is defective and just my luck as this was a time-sensitive purchase.

I will see what DJI says about it. Luckily I have only owned it for a couple of days now and have obviously never flown it, nor been able to turn it on successfully, so returning it for a replacement should not be an issue.

That is just one of the ways I have heard of it failing.  Sorry you are having trouble, as long as the Video module is only corrupted and not broke the repair should not be that much, I have heard between 40 and 100 US  dollars.



As the matter of fact I had seen the Corrupted file back at the 1.4 update ( On the log )   as well.

Thanks Donnie - they better not try to charge me for a repair. I just bought it directly from DJI last week and it arrived in this state before I could ever use it, so I am not paying a cent to have it repaired.

I will keep you/everyone informed with what happens. They really should send me a replacement camera as soon as I send them a tracking number for returning this one. That's what any company with good customer service would do, but we will see.

For what it is worth, , I had similar issue on update to version 1.8 with an X3. I updated inspire with controllers off as per procedures. This resulted in damaged video module "due to the update process" according to DJI. Even though I have asked many times, I have had no explanation as to how this could occur.

The saga has been going on now since beginning of April. I was initially told it was not covered under warranty and asked to pay $100 less than the new X3 purchase price for the repair. After querying this as it was DJI UPDATE that caused the issue, they apologised and said it would be covered under warranty. 3 weeks later, I asked when I would get it back and was told I need to pay for the repair, the price this time around had dropped by $200. More emails and again they say sorry and it will be covered under warranty.

It is a shame that the back end of DJI is so dis-functional, hopefully they will get it all together. It would be nice though to have some sort of explanation as to how this happens and how an update can randomly affect some machines and not others when the same process is applied, it makes no sense to me!

Thanks Wolfman, and I'm sorry this also happened to you. I will certainly let everyone know how this all gets handled. If DJI try to pull any of the BS that I have heard about with others on me, I always have the option of filing a card dispute with my bank (already spoke with my bank and they said this would be no problem) and just having a new camera overnighted from B&H (for the same price with excellent customer service). I certainly hope it doesn't come to all of that, but I am not going to put up with any BS (like you waiting for a month), that is for darn sure. I paid for a new/working camera and paid for expedited shipping, but I received a quickly delivered $1700 paperweight.

I am 100% not a last-minute operation and I never make promises that I am not 100% sure I can keep, but my client just let me know 2 weeks before the shoot that they want this sensor on set (I have literally over a dozen sensor options/platforms, but they wanted this one) and I was sure that I could make that happen. I have been flying Inspires since they first came out and have never had a problem updating any DJI product, ever!

Sorry for the rant, I'm just really disappointed in both DJI for failing to deliver a working product, and in myself for getting myself in this situation when I know better. Let's just hope they do the right thing come tomorrow.

DJI-Paladin - I appreciate your reply. Do I really need to send in the aircraft as well? Everything appears to be working with the X3 attached. I haven't flown it since updating it, as I am waiting to hear from DJI if it is safe to fly, but everything appears to be working/responding normally. I don't understand why I would need to send in the aircraft just for receiving a defective camera, but would certainly appreciate if you could explain.

good luck brother feel your pain this is something to learn from.  received a x3 camera for my x5 pro not wanting to always use the x5 camera . Well everything is ok the x3 is working but at first it asked for a camera firmware upgrade but the camera works fine . I will not do it not happening if it works don't fix it right.
Question how do you verify what firmware version on the camera your running?
