I have the latest updates on my Phantom 4 and controller and have successfully recalibrated the IMU. However, when trying to recalibrate the gimbal, it hangs at 72% and the gimbal squeaks. I have tried several times with the same result. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hello clayton6, what's your app version?

Have you crashed your plane before?  If not, it sounds like  mechanical issue, and you may need to contact DJI support.

It has the latest software updates. I don't have it with me so can't tell you the numbers sorry. I updated everything several days ago.
Interestingly, my son was flying it and twice in a row it landed unevenly (on grass) on one skid and flipped over. I then had a turn and it did the same but ended up on the ground upside down with all motors running. This was the first time that it had ever crashed. There was no external damage and I tested it this morning to a height of around two meters. All operations appeared normal, however, the camera has a slight tilt.

Make sure the app is the latest version (IOS:2.8.3, Android: 2.8.1) which can be checked in General Settings——About.  After crash or hard-landings, it is recommended to calibrate the IMU and gimbal again.

I have 2.8.3 and have recalibrate the IMU but have problems with the gimbal calibrating. It just hangs up at 72% and squeaks. On the first calibration, the camera was shuddering.

Did it stop at 72% and then show “calibration failed”？Feel free to post a screenshot or a video clip of this issue here.

No. It showed the progress until 72%. I let it stay at 72% for around ten minutes. There was no further progress and it did not show "calibration failed." I killed the app as I was concerned that the squeaking sound may be causing damage.

Could the calibration finish if you restart the drone and try again?

No. I tried three times and it would only  go to 72% each time.

Kind of sounds like a hardware issue. Was it OK before the update? I did the update a few days back without any issues. I didn't do a gimbal calibration.

I took it to the warranty people yesterday and they think there is an issue with the gimbal. Having said that, I flew it today and it seemed to function okay. I have the latest software updates but the video signal corrupted a couple of times. I need the drone next week so will then take it in for a service.

If memory serves the latest Firmware update took care of some Gimbal issues. I have not experienced any issues with mine. Good luck.

I had my P4 looked at and it turns out that the y and r axis motor esc board is damaged. It must be a fairly delicate piece of gear. Unfortunately it has to be sent to China for repairs and that will take about four weeks.
