It completes and then tells me to reboot the controller. Then it says needs upgrade, rinse, repeat.

Just updated to v1.9.60. the update was fast only about 6 to 8 min and no problems the only thing I found is the date and time on the text file are wrong prob.no big deal.

You have a Phantom 4k, and if you paid for a Pro, you've been swindled out of a lot of money!

there are 3 p3's. beginner, advanced and the pro, and the pro is the 4k version of the advanced,
so he bought a pro.

there is also a 4K with standard transmitter

So what does that mean for phantoms in europe? And specialy in holland? Because out goverment is going to restrict our freedom even more,
and that means not higher than 150 feet and no further than 300 feet, and they asked al big names in the drone industry to help out
with geo fencing, and who know's they squeeze the video transmission even more down to that 150/300 feet, so i'm not going to update
no more, because i don't trust dji anymore, so i wait until ohters come up with their story's, because i don't want to be the next
victom of hours and hours to fix their damn bugs and shit that stop working. Even the local rc dealer where i bought my p3 from
gave me the advice not to upgrade to the latest firmware, because it's  full of bugs, so i should wait a while until they are fixed,
and save myself the hassle from finding out what the damn problem is and how to solve it.

Thanks Ken for the fast respond , I updated the FW now twice and had no problems.  
Reading up on how to do it defiantly helps, but it all comes down to one .bin file and it needs to go on to the micro sd card. How you do that don't matter as long as you only end up with one (the newest) .bin file for your AIRCRAFT and the file is not corupted in any way. Some zip utility's will write to the file you unzip so stay away from them.

Wrong.
There are four versions.

Well you have to download the proper  FW version for your aircraft ... if you have a Phantom 3 Pro you need to download the update file for the Phantom Pro
This should be clear to everyone

How long goes it take to install on each battery? Is there any indicator when it is done? It installed fine on the P3P, but on the second battery I tried I saw no indication that it was in progress, and no sign that it was done. It did not add a "success" to the text file. So again, can anyone tell me how long it takes per extra battery? Thanks.

I just did a test flight with one of the extra batteries, and it went fine, no indications that the battery firmware was not updated, so I have to assume it installed as expected. I did not get any signal in the installation process that the battery was updated, and there was no added "success" in the text file, other than the original one from the P3P upgrade. So I expect nobody else is actually getting a "success" text for each additional battery, although some have said they did see this.

Wow, A bit gun shy on this NFZ wording. Think I'll wait a bit.

Wise choice .. Im still on on 1.4..

I updated the aircraft first, left the bin file on the sd card and deleted the txt file chanced the battery and powered up the aircraft again. The green led light started to flash green and red again for 2 min turned to solid green
and the 2 battery update was completed, I also got a new txt file with success.

P3S and 4k owners are experiencing range issues with the 1.6.8 firmware, will we see a fix for this  ...

The standard and 4k will always have range issues in comparison to the pro, advanced and 4. This is because the remotes are based on 5.8Gh wifi rather than the 2.4Gh DJI lightbridge. The best you could hope for would be 800m with WIFI which is standard across most WIFI operated drones, less in built up areas. That is why the standard and 4k are much cheaper than the others.

why in DJI website under support phantom 3 advanced there were no file to download but for phantom 3 pro it has file to download the new firmware.

Please copy the bin file to the SD card's root directory.Before copying, it is recommended to format the card.

This is also a big concern for me, 150ft high and 300ft far makes the Phantom basically useless as a drone and I hope that DJI will be forthcoming about this change in firmware updates.

Just updated my p3p and found the climb rate is 3m/s max. Is there a setting to get it back to 5m/s?
