I would just like to echo that I have experienced similar issues. Had 2 great flights just after updating firmware. I had actually read this post after those two flights, and thought, well lucky that didn't happen to me. On the next flight, I had the same issue as described (manual takeoff I never use the auto feature), gear would not raise automatically or with manual flip of switch and craft would lazily drift up and down. Flipping into atti mode seemed to solve altitude drifting problems, but the gear could still not be raised. Landed safely. To test, I shut off the craft, and restarted, this time takeoff was normal. I can upload DAT files if someone wants them, but there already seems to be a lot of postings already. Will be downgrading to previous firmware.
FLY207.DAT is the log where the issue happened. I have included the flight before and after where there were no issues as well.
Here are the log files

I'm still checking back on this thread every day since my problematic upgrade (and sequential downgrade back to 1.8) almost a week ago. Come on DJI, we're waiting for answers and solutions.

Hi everybody,

Just wanted to say thanks for all the usefull information!
I have the same issue. My Inspire 1 v2.0 goes up and down by itself after it takes off.
Also the landing gear doesn't function as it should be (probably something with the VPS).
I thought i did something wrong because i am a newby (last week i flew for the first time.. ever).
But I Upgrated 2 days ago to 1.9 so i think this is the problem like most of you say!
This week i will also downgrade my drone to 1.8 and see if this solves the problem.

This is not the first issue i had with my Inspire 1 v2.0
5 weeks ago it arrived with a dead battery (TB 47) after 4 weeks receiving (4!!) DOA batteries I finally got a TB 48 battery that worked!
Apparently it was an entire batch of defected TB 47 from DJI!!?? Well.. anyway..
Now I can finally fly, but because of the update causing a lot of issues am to scared to fly with it atm.

I hope DJI notifies everybody when there is a new upgrade which is safe enough for all who is using a DJI drone!
If there are something i still need to know, please tell me,

Greetings from the Netherlands,

Di Totto

Rich,
thanks for your time.
I've downgraded to 1.8.

No problem.... I realize that DJI has 1000's of Inspire's out there and we are only seeing 10-15 posts with issues. I was wondering if this is about the X5 camera or something else. I really did not want to downgrade because of the RTH fix they did for the AutoFlight logic App. who knows what other fixes are hidden in this update.  truly concerning though and hope that DJI answers this issue quickly!

I understand your point on thousands out there not having issues - allegedly.

I personally know a bunch of owners (see I didn't say pilots), that do not read or participate on forums of any kind. They just own it and fly it, until it crashes or turns into paper weight at the office.

I don't know how many come to this forum, but you can see the number of readers it's not on the thousands..... weird.

Personally, I'm happy with the quality we find here, over quantity.
Good to have guys like you to share and have a dialogue.

You are absolutely correct .. we do not hear from everyone on the forum! Great point and we can only hope that 1000's are not dropping like fly's

linolens it is great to communicate with others with a common interest and we can learn so much from others for sure!  I know that I have been learning a lot these past few years and look forward to much more.

I just finished charging up my TB47 / 48 batteries to storage mode after reading that some are having problems with dead batteries. So, its a good place to keep us on our toes ..

I upgraded to the new firmware, but have not flown with it yet. I read about the problems early on so I kept the Inspire on the ground, hoping DJI would fix it quickly. Guess I better downgrade if I want to fly this week as the weather will be quite good.

As an appropriately risk managed approach, It would appear that upgrades to this version should be avoided in all cases until there is a official response from DJI.

As it is impossible to know which UAVs will be affected, either immediately or after a random number of flights - the firmware package as distributed by DJI should not be considered fit for purpose, should not be used in anything other than a purely testing/diagnostic context and deleted from the website.

I am sure that a fix will be forthcoming at a later stage - until then downgrade and fly safe.

Agreed,  I had 30+ outdoor flights and 15+ indoor flights with no issues before experiencing the uncommanded climb and VPS failure.

Luckily I was outdoors at the time it occurred - if it had happened during an indoor flight it would have crashed into the metal beams on the roof and fallen several meters to a concrete floor.

I think there is something to do with VPS.. I have firmware 1.8 and i shut down the VPS because i fly over the water.. today i forgot to switch VPS on and when i start the first flight the Inspire1 raise about 2 meters and i didn't touch sticks.. when i stop the raising, it starts to go down by it self..

DJI Paladin,

thanks for adding something to this.

It would appear that DJI has found a problem if you are suggesting to downgrade to 1.8. Can you please share with us what this issue actually is and how it can affect some but not all Inspires. It all seems a little strange and some clarification would be great!

At this stage, wouldn't it be wise to remove 1.9 from the update list until this is rectified?

Not dumb at all. Just put the 1,8 firmware (download from DJI site) on the SD card and put this into your Inspire 1 camera just like you did before. Turn on the Inspire and it will downgrade the necessary modules I posted my file above in this thread. So far I am glad that I downgraded giving me piece of mind for now until DJI comes up with the fix.

I'm a computer programmer, and I used to write firmware for video processing hardware.

Software systems are so complex these days, that it is quite common to see a package work perfectly on one device, but fail on another. It's also quite common to upgrade one board in the device, but not another. So two devices that have the exact same model number may behave slightly differently.

I've seen (and worked for) companies go through this kind of growth spurt. They get popular, they pour lots of money into developing new products or versions, but they neglect to put a proportionate amount of money into the QA department. So they get burned by poor QA, then they either die or improve their QA. Let's hope that DJI pours more money into their QA. Judging by DJI Paladin's responses in this thread, I'm hoping that's what they're doing.

Could the people that are having issues with the newest update do me a favor and check to see if you have the 32 channel hack installed?

If so you will see that both your aircraft and camera versions will display v1.8.1.00+.

Also you will experience issues with your landing gear, etc.

From what I have been reading is that the 32 channel hack is not compatible with the newer firmware v1.9.x.x.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I removed the 32 channel hack (uninstalled DJI Go App & reinstalled) just to get the firmware to register correctly in the DJI Go App.

I also calibrated both RC, Gimbal, IMU and Compass and I had 3ea. uneventful flights yesterday.

Note: I think the auto channel sense is broken and you have to manual select a non interfering channel to maintain a good video sync. (Please fix DJI on next release.)

Hi Paladin,

Yes, that is the big question, why does the update affect some but not all. It is like Russian roulette!

I had an issue with the 1.8 update that fried the video module yet I seem to be alone in this occurrence. How these events are possible to a select number of users installing the same software update is a little strange to say the least. Do your engineers have any answers to how this is happening?

I would personally say if anyone is unsure just downgrade to V1.8, it's very similar to the VPS bug that Phantom 3 had with v1.26, that would do something very similar and turning off VPS would stop it but that man not be there case with the Inspire.

It hopefully won't take DJI to long to resolve it but it goes to show how the smallest of change upsets things, why two identical craft behave differently with the same FW is always strange and leads you to think it could be tolerance differences between sensors but that's just my thoughts.

Regardless in the meantime fly safe folks and just be aware and if at all unsure go back to V1.8.

Pun intended.

Hi Sascha,

I have the same experiences made with firmware version v1.8.1.00 . I create photos with the software button , then starts after a few shots a continuous loop , it can be continuously created photos . Photos are often scrap because the data stream can not write as fast . But I could see the German forums no one who had the same error . I have worked with other tablets , but still it was Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 and repeatedly stepped on it . Solution: It produces pictures with the hardware button .
Furthermore, I have found that the focus is not always focused when I click in the image , if not the copter was moving . Such situations occur when you want to create panoramas , while moving the camera , then you want between times refocus . Something that I now see that there are other victims .
